Since the VAS is the hottest topic of the moment I have a question for you guys that know about them. This razor is in a box marked as the Million Dollar Razor. I noted it looks like the VC2 except on the bottom of the door that holds the blade in it does not have the word VALET cut out. Was this a later set or some such?

I wish I could help, but all I have is speculation based on my dislike of Gillette back then. So I'm probably wrong.
It wouldn't surprise me if it was part of the cheapening process seen in the razors after Gillette took over in 1930. One less stamping machine, one bit less handling, one step in production removed.
FWIW, Waites also shows the door as not being punched out.
Now I'd like someone who knows give us the real info.

Tom, is your inner door punched out to show the word "Valet", or is it solid?
What a shame they didn't put a date on the instructions. The razor pictured in them shows the solid door. Dating them sure would've made it easier to trace the punched door.
