I revisited this shave cream in a tube yesterday and wanted to share my experience. This cream is extremely easy to lather up. I was using an old ER brush I had reknotted with a Silvertip. It gives a lot of lather that is very rich and creamy. The scent is one that I am very fond of. It's a very clean soapy smelling to me. The shave itself went wonderfully well. A lot of cushion and slickness. I shaved with my ER Streamline and had a most enjoyable shave. BBS and no nicks/weepers/razor burn. I've never used the Tabac shave soap, so I can't compare the two. I can say this is an amazing cream and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a new cream to try out. It was a total joy from start to finish.

I would caution anyone trying this great shave cream to build it with water. Usually, when I lather a cream, I use my set amount of water and just lather. With Tabac, I start with a less wet brush and add water till I'm at my sweet spot for the lather. It builds until you get a rich creamy lather. I think it's because of the oil content in this cream, but this method seems to work best for me. Tabac really sucks in the water, but too much water and the lather isn't where you want it.

Thanks for the review. You make it sound worth whipping some up. Next time I'm out of Canada I will try to locate some. I will just have to add it to da list. You are definately an enabler. : )
And Drumzalot - great sig line.

It is a very moderately priced shaving cream here in Germany, retails for something like €6. My brother-in-law recently brought back €1 shaving creams from Poland, the Czech Republic, and Croatia, and they all easily perform the same. So, there are far better deals to be had in the US, where it retails for rather strange prices in my opinion.
That is, unless you really like the scent. Or, as my wife would put it, miasma. I grew up in the 70s, and the only people to wear Tabac or Old Spice were your archetypal child molester types. The scent still makes my toenails curl, just like 4711 Echt Kölnisch Wasser. But that may be a childhood trauma (aunts slobbering all over me and all that).
Otherwise, nice product. Maurer & Wirtz are well known for their skin care products over here, and Tabac (especially the soap) is really quite decent.

I've used the soap and it seems from the description that the cream is quite similar to it. It's definitely worth a try.
Good performer, and if one can tolerate the scent it's quite nice. I like the scent, but then I don't have the childhood memories that nightmares are made of :-).
That reminds me; I should pick some more up the next time I place an order somewhere.
I don't want to hijack the thread, but another good German soap/cream is Speick (sp?). It's performance is similar to Tabac, but with a very different scent. I don't know if I've ever seen it in puck form. I shred the sticks and press them into a bowl.

Speick is another childhood horror. But that's a different story. Shaving products from Germany? There are a few, and not the worst on this planet. While not exactly German, one of the most interesting shaving products from the German language region is, however, Esbjerg. Same performance as, for example, Castle Forbes, Xpec or (also German) Tabula Rasa (made from Unobtainium in minuscule batches, so forget it). Regards, Robin

Yes, Klar is good but their little tins are (IMO) quite expensive on this side of the pond. Having written that, the "Sport" is quite nice for a floral scent. The Kabinett was good, if one likes rose, and incredibly inexpensive over here for the quantity received.
Robin do you know if Klar is going to keep to the higher end market or release another product like the Kabinett? Any rumors?

Brian, As far as I know, the only one available is the one in the little tins. Unconfirmed rumour has it that they produce soaps for other, better known brands. One would be dark grey in Germany and black everywhere else. But that is just a rumour. It would not surprise me if it were true, given the quality of these products, though

I'll agree with InfernoOrangeSS, this Cream lathers a bit differently than ~99% of other Creams because of the Oil content. It can drink a bit of water and lathers to a dense & creamy consistency, I believe the extra oils used help soften/ lift the whiskers better than any other cream, when left on your face ~60-90 seconds before shaving.
Most shavers knock the Cream, but I think they skimp on the product and don't take the time to find its sweet spot. When it's right, you won't feel the whiskers being cut and you'll check to see if you have a blade in the Razor... at least I did on my first Tabac Cream shave... Under-rated in my experience.
