The hourglass shaped Ever-Ready handles have become a favorite of mine, I like their looks, they way they feel and the various colors they came in. The two tone black and white and blue and white handles are pretty common but here's a couple that I have that are a little different. The cream colored one is a K40 that originally came with a badger knot, and the red one is a boar 100. The K40 was in excellent condition, but the knot was really soft and floppy. So I replaced it with an Ace Shaving 20 mm finest badger, which is an outstanding knot. The original lettering was perfect so I left it alone. This brush was very clean and showed little signs of use. The red 100 was really nasty when I got it. After some heavy duty cleaning and polishing I replaced the original knot with a 22 mm TGN Omega boar with the bucket removed. The lettering wasn't painted originally but I decided to paint them, because, well, I just like the way it looks. I think it looks a bit better now. Here they are after a couple uses, both are really great brushes now. Hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I did tinkering with them!

That red one was SCARRRRRRY!
Those are the ones that I occasionally bring home, but risk terrifying my wife over! She is not a fan of the 'chunky covered stuff' as she puts it. But, I showed her this one of yours and she was impressed. Not an easy feat HT!

Thanks everyone. Yeah, Wayne, the red one was almost too nasty looking foe me, and I have a high nastiness tolerance, but I could see the potential was there. Glad I was able to impress Mrs. RocketMan, that's a pretty rare feat for me!

Great job! They look brand new. I too like the hour glass shape.

I have one of those style brushes. It's red and black with a metal ring separating the two colors. It's prime for a restore like you have done. I bought it months ago planning to refurbish it. Seeing yours, I just might get that done. I was going to replace the badger knot with a Silvertip though. I may do some research and try to find out what knot is in it to restore it to original glory. As ways, thank you for the inspiration!

My understanding is that pure badger on the old brushes means exactly that, it's made with pure badger and it's not a grade of badger. Looking at old brush ads a lot of them were mixtures of badger and boar and sometimes badger and French bristle, whatever that is. I use this one with the original knot and it's actually not bad. Very soft, but not overly floppy. The biggest difference I've found is that the old knots aren't real dense, probably a way they kept the cost down. I do have an Ace Shaving finest badger that would look great in this handle. Hmmmm...

Thanks! I may go with a Silvertip just because I love my other 2 restored ER brushes that I had silvertips put in. The one you have pictured is the same as mine.

I'd say the silver tip would be a perfect match!

Thanks! I'll definitely have to replace the knot as it is worn down very short. The handle part is in very good condition. I don't think it needs anything other than the metal part brightened up with a little elbow grease. I think I will use your method to make the lettering on the bottom stand out.

So far my favorites are the "Souped up 100" and these two. I like the hourglass design without the metal band. I remember seeing a couple of 100 handles in a collectables shop about 4 months ago. I think I'll stop in and see if they are still there.

I like the looks of the metal band, they're much less common and I think they look a little fancier, but from a functional standpoint I like the feel of the bandless models better when using them.

Found some 100s on line but a bit pricey with shipping. Too hot to go fishing so I'm going on Safari in the wild tomorrow to hunt some down.
