I think in '13 Kampfe switched to spine back blades. If you look at the bronze holder that flips up at the rear where a blade would be I'm betting you'll see a notch in it that holds a spine back blade. The construction is much like my Kampfe '13 Cru-steel. If it's identical you need to let me know how you like it. For me it's the most aggressive razor that I've ever used. Like gluing a blade to a popsicle stick and shaving with it; and I love aggressive razors, but for me it's teetering on the edge of being too much.

I need a few moles removed from the old kisser. Hopfully this one does the trick. I suspected this could be like the Cru-Steel, so I will take my time.

I've been using the Cru-steel for the past few days and I wonder why I considered it super aggressive. Maybe my technique has yet again progressed? I dunno, but I'm having no issues with it at all. When I first used it I thought it was the razor from hell.

Last night's shave went super well. Unless my technique has really improved, I thought the SCS razor was on the mild side. Not to say I didn't receive a great shave. On the contrary, it was one of the best shaves I have had in quite a while. I still like to know, if this razor takes a wedge blade because of the depth of the side stops are quite a bit deeper than the standard SE blade. Here is a picture of the SCS loaded with a standard blade after last nights shave.

Rich I see that groove I referred to in that bronze blade flip up blade holder, so I'm going to say it's not for wedge blades. I can't begin to explain the sloppy fit of a spine back blade.
OK, I checked Waits.
It says in the initial text in the Kampfe section that the Kampfe blades were quite thick. I'm wondering if the side holders are bent to caress a thicker blade, holding it in place without using the full width of the head. A thin blade wouldn't have the thickness and would fit sloppy since what would hold it (not being thick) would be the outer dimensions of the side holders.
I hope that makes sense.

It does make sense. I have some old blades that fit quite nicely in it. But I won't change a thing. This razor shaves so well, it has become my favorite.
