Auto Strop VC4. If the Feather blades become unavailable, the AS loses its edge (pun intended) and I'd go with the Streamline or CP (you'll never get me to choose between the two. Sorry)

Bullet tip (I much prefer the unofficial name). It's perceived lack of aggression is more than made up by it's weight and the fact that it's the sleekest, sexiest looking razor out there. Other than that one.........as these threads are always answered by people listing more than one, and I for one don't want to be left behind.......the CP and the Streamline. Other than that........nearly every SE I've managed to lay my hands on.

Early Gem Cutlery 1912 Damaskeene. In my not so humble opinion this is the single best razor ever designed. Are there differences between the early GEM Cutlery Damaskeene and the Damaskeene's later produced under the GEM Safety Razor Corp. designation ?

The cover plate on the Gem Safety Razor models have the bevel at the end , whereas the early Cutlery models don't. I like the appearance of the bevel-less(?) models a little better. The later ones also have slightly different handles.

If you had to pick just one SE razor out of your many, which one would it be? I'm going to cheat, you can too. For me this is like picking out a favorite child. I can't pick just one. But if I had to it'd probably be the OCMM or the Damaskeene. Toss a coin, both different, both fantastic. The original question still stands if you have a fav', but I'll open it up to... I tend to like and use aggressive razors far more than any other type. The OCMM, the 1912, Lather Catchers (I haven't used one yet that wasn't aggressive), shovelhead, probably others that I can't remember off the top of my head. Yet I also love the Damaskeene and I wouldn't put that in the same category as an aggressive razor, but it sure does give a close shave. It's a real standout razor IMO. Working like an aggressive razor while appearing to be mild mannered. A sort of Super Razor; like Clark Kent. (Young whippersnappers might not get that reference.) So that's the gist of this. If you have a clear favorite, tell us. If you only have a foggy idea of a favorite (like me), tell us that as well. Why is also helpful, but not required. Let's just have fun with it. Based purely on performance: Eversharp/Shick Hydro-Magic + GEM OCMM My black & chrome Hydro-Magic is the only injector razor I wouldn't part with under any circumstances. OCMM: Nothing else shaves as close, fast and gently.

Boy...in a way this is tough...but since Tom's package came, things have gotten alot simpler.... First off for sentimental and bonding with my Pop; aswell as looks and performance....the Eversharp/Hydro-magic will forever by firmly planted in my shave-cave... Now for the business at hand....The Ever Ready 1912 is my favorite daily shaver...I never shaved with a Dameskeene so I can't differentiate between the two, but for now I feel the 1912 is the over-all best razor I have ever held... I love the OCMM and hold it is very high esteem...and such a marvel of modern engineering...It was close, but the one thing that edged out the 1912 to the front was that retro closed comb....If I miss 3 days of shaving that rascal is still uncloggable, and my OCMM will clog and take extra time to free up between strokes...The 1912 is bullet proof...Easy to load...Easy to clean..nothing slows it down and I never gotten less than a perfect shave with it...and in style too....This razor is as nice to look at as it is to shave with.... Now I'm looking forward to introducing the 1914 and 1924 razors to my razor family....and I feel my 1912 knows they are coming, because the shaves she's been giving are Steller... ....Im on a 2 1/2 week little tour of south-side Turkey, and as when you're touring sometimes you have to grab a shave under less than perfect circumstances, but this 1912 always delivers...

Gem Cutlery Damaskeene. open or closed comb. There simply is nothing that comes close. As Tom put it, the best safety razor ever designed. Once I got the damaskeene bug, I couldnt get rid of the 7+ micromatics in all their forms, quickly enough.
If could only have 2, the other without question is the I2 Hydro Magic injector.

Henckels Wotan. I have tried about 20 other SEs over the past two months,, and this is the only one that shaves as well as a cut-throat. Besides, I was lucky enough to get one that is also visually highly appealing. Most of the other SEs work exceptionally well, too, (much better than any DE I have ever used), but I am distributing them among friends and family at the moment. Not sure what to do with the other 17.

Greetings
I think I would choose the OCMM but only by the tiniest of margins before the Damaskeene.
Regards Dick.

The OCMM is more than my best performing single edge razor,it is also the ugliest...So ugly that I left mine in deep storage for quite a while before trying it for the first time.
It has none of mystique surrounding the razors manufactured in the 20's and earlier nor does it offer as much feedback and I wish it had a knurled handle.
I've let it sit for weeks, picked it up and nailed perfect irritation free shaves that seem to be over before I've barely started. It's not fun to shave with,it's performance borders on robotic,I really don't pay any attention to technique other than to lightly hold the handle where the the razor feels properly balanced and let it glide.
To paraphrase General Colin Powell:To shave with the OCMM is to employ decisive and overwhelming force in order to achieve a rapid result.

Not sure what to do with the other 17. I have to add my plug for the Rapide. As much as I enjoy my other razors - and I have some wonderful examples - the Rapide is the workhorse that I use multiple times per week. Although visually similar to the Wotan, the design is different, and for my beard, the preferred choice. And as BeBerlin mentioned - what to do with all the other razors I've tried and moved on from?
