The OCMM is more than my best performing single edge razor,it is also the ugliest...So ugly that I left mine in deep storage for quite a while before trying it for the first time. To paraphrase General Colin Powell:To shave with the OCMM is to employ decisive and overwhelming force in order to achieve a rapid result. "To shave with the OCMM is to employ decisive and overwhelming force in order to achieve a rapid result." Genius use of a quote there Marc...and so appropriate...that just nails it...I going to cop this lick and plagerize it profusly....lol...Thanks again...

Without a doubt, I would choose the Ever-Ready Streamline/Jewel/Ambassador!

Well, as I am newbie with SEs I have not tried that many (hope to correct this over time). But as of now, if I could only use one razor, let alone one SE, I would happily shave every day with a Cobra (I assume it's considered an SE).
It has the smoothness of a straight with the control of a safety razor and unmatched efficiency. It is the only razor I have ever used that gives a comfortable, passable 1 pass shave.

I am a veteran DE shaver (23 years) but so new at SE razors. I really only have two different SE models a 1912 and a Heavy Flat Top. Being new I thought I would love the Heavy Flat Top but once I tried the 1912 it was insanely smooth. In time as I get more models I can have a more knowledgeable opinion. So far the 1912 does it for me.

The Cobra is indeed a SE razor.
As you gents get more razors and get comfortable with them it's OK to come back and add a new updated choice.

I have navigated through a number of SE razors, Gem, Ever Ready, Schick, Cobra. But today I had a game changing experience with a razor I never expected to like: a Rolls Imperial No. 2. What could possibly have been so wonderful about this razor? To start with, I put the edge on the blade. This was my first attempt at honing anything, and I thought it'd be fun to give it a try before sending the blade off to someone who knows how to do it. Call it beginner's luck, I put an edge on this Rolls blade that astounded me for its smooth efficiency. The shave was one of my best to date using any razor, DE, SE, or straight. I just kept that blade nearly flat on my face like the instructions said to do, and away went my whiskers with not the slightest bit of irritation. And now, at the end of the day, many hours after my shave, my face feels just as smooth as it did this morning.
So the Rolls wins my vote. Not only for the satisfaction I received from creating my own edge, but for the quality of shave it delivered, easily superior to the shaves from my SEs using disposable blades.

Wow, a great edge the first time! Sounds like you should get into straights.

I found it to be a fine razor but I like the E-2 more. The E to me is as efficient as my slant. The Dammy surprised, kinda like the 1st time I used an oc.I used a Gem Blue and liked the shave but it's not my everyday choice. Just plain easier for my arthritic hands to use the E. I also like the audio feedback from the E +the 74. Ultimately the Schick gives me incredible dfses on a consistent basis.

Early Gem Cutlery 1912 Damaskeene. In my not so humble opinion this is the single best razor ever designed. I believe my man Tom has once again; very succinctly; nailed it...Please except me in this razor's fan club... The Damaskeene as far as I can tell is just about perfect in every way, and there can be no argument as to it being one of August Scheuber's greatest masterpieces...It's probably the most imitated razor in history and her progeny have given the best shaves to more people than any razors known to man. She's beautiful to look at, easy to operate and shaves so cool and low impact that you don't realize how effective she is til the BBS's start making the scene...This is what ShadowsDad refers to as it's 'Clark Kent' personality. This phenomena must be experiance to understand, and in my opinion every self shaver should experience it at least once... I originally wrote a short dissertation on the attributes of the ER'24 which is my close 2nd...But upon further reflection this thread is on the 'Highlander' razor..."There can be only one" and at this time I believe the Gem Cutlery Damaskeene is in a League of her own"...;)But I do love the ER's 1914 and 24...and of course the Micromatics OC & CP... This is a cool thread...Thanks...It's been a lot of fun....to read, to think about, and to take part in...

an addendum to my post above....I'm afraid I need to call a tie....I'll need to investigate further but at this time I'm calling a tie between the early Gem Cutlery Damaskeene and the early Ever Ready 1914...The '14 maybe a tad finicky with the blade loading but makes up for it with maneuverability and being a tad more efficient...My review for the ER'14 is here: theoriginalsafetytoo.proboards.com/thread/92/ready-1914-little-lather-catcher?page=9As I said, I'll need more time to confirm but thats my story and I'm sticking to it....How do you guys see it??

Because of a malfunctioning '14 that I once owned I'm still undecided about it. But choosing todays "best of" SE razor it would be the ER '24. That's what my hand reaches toward more often than not today. :-) Except for the OCMM. That's an always favorite. And the ... OK there are just so many fav's.
