I open this thread to show the SE part of my small razor collection in their acquisition's chronological order. It all started when I was looking for an unmentionable from an US seller, so I can send it to Northshore for cerakoating sparing one overseas shipping. That's when I met Dan Varga, who turned out to be the admin of S.E.R.F (Single Edge Razor Fans) FB group. We traded a head, and he invited me to his group, although I had no SE razors at all. Then I used that group for its real purpose, asked for advice. I mentioned what are my favorite razors, without naming them, it can be summarized, that effective razors with articulate blade feel, that many call aggressive. One of the recommendation was a GEM MMOC, it was told to be the best when it comes to price/value ratio. There are better but bangs for a lot more bucks they said. We'll get back to that later. So I got one locally in Budapest from a friend who said it was too aggressive for him, which immediately was great sign. And after trying it I felt that even if this particular piece might not be my ultimate favorite, but SE razors will definitely bring some excitement. Now I need you to help me with something. When I previously asked what they love in SE's, which for me didn't sound that logical, why could a single edge be beneficial to the same with double edges, I was always told, that the thicker blade won't resonate like a DE. With all due respect, this is utter bullshit. I have tried copious amount of razors, and the blade didn't resonate in any of them. Still, having 6 SE's, I barely touch anything else, maybe just to make my SOTD photos more diversified. What is your reason finding SE's superior? And now a photo of my first SE, the MMOC, which gives me nearly perfect BBS shaves in 3 passes, I just don't love that the way it would deserve. In this hobby I need that my pieces of equipment be not just great performers, but beautiful as well, and my opinion is that this one lacks in the aesthetics department. * obviously in my bathroom.

Great writeup. You’re first SE is one of the best. I too love the blade feel. It lets you know what you are doing.
Keep the writing coming, you are excellent at it.

I too will state that the blade in a SE razor doesn't flex, and it's extremely easy to prove (better you than me for this test). Use a SE blade for 20 shaves* and do the same thing with an unmentionable blade. The unmentionable when dull will flex and draw blood and I guarantee that you'll feel it flex before it cuts you. You'll never get to 20 shaves with any unmentionable blade without being covered in bandages. Yet the SE blade will never draw blood since it doesn't flex. It might not give a good shave anymore, but it'll never draw blood from being dull.
*Heck, I've gotten over 30 good shaves with some and changed them out only out of boredom.

If you put it this way it is not BS, still (using most of the time SE's) I think is rather irrelevant. I change DE blades after 5 use no matter what. A box of my favorite blades cost me $0.47, so I just do not experience this, I don't even wait until I feel they'd go dull. While I agree theoretically this might be true. But then let's change the question like what makes an SE superior when comparison is made with new and sharp blades.

My second fantastic beastI have received a message last December from another admin of SERF. I saw many of you over there in that group, I find it quite natural you know the people I am talking about. Carlos R. Anglada contacted me saying that he had read before that I wrote that I had only one SE razor, and he just couldn't stand that. So he stated as a fact, that he gave me a Schick injector, a Type E, which might be a bit too aggressive for his taste. I have seen these Schick razors in photos of course during the ~5 years since I started wetshaving, but none in reality. As I know these (or any SE's) were never sold in Hungary or in the eastern block for that matter, and lacking blade supplies locally, those rarely having a chance to travel didn't bring them from abroad neither. So you just don't come across those unless you import them yourself. The razor arrived shortly, and Carlos has also put two boxes of blades in the pack. (I do my best to make the PIF concept an existing thing in Hungary really, and having quite some guys with the affinity, today I can tell this does exist now. I might talk about this later.) I also sent back some stuff that Carlos couldn't have seen earlier, and we regularly talk eversince. So it arrived, and I cleaned it up nicely, both the razor and its box, and I can tell you it is in a terrific shape. But the shave... I want to avoid exaggeration but it changed how I think about shaving and razors in general. Aggressive or not, it gave me the best shaving experience ever, already during the very first attempt. Type E was made for me. I tend to read the opposite from others, but I think finding the right angle is very intuitive, and it gave me an effortless BBS immediately, I was shaving with a wicked grin on my face. Before that I didn't even really like how it looked, and generally I prefer longer and heavier razors, but that is simply perfect for me. I immediately started to brag about it in the local wetshaving community, and by now many sport a Type E or Type G, I kinda made a fashion with that, even if not everybody adores it like me. Until a recent acquisition, I would've said that was my best razor ever. Not that it's pushed off its throne, but I bought some SE razors ever since that compares to it. All of which I will show in this thread later. But they don't have to be ranked right? So it's one of my most loved razors to date.

My 3rd fantastic beast Soon after falling in love with the Schick, I obviously started to read about the history of Col. Jacob Schick and his inventions, which are luckily pretty well documented. And this is how I came across those weird creatures that turned out to be the repeating razors. I just had to get one. Long story short, a question in S.E.R.F. and the guy who has gifted me the Type E immediately knew who has all three repeaters for sale in a bundle. We pulled the trigger (pun intended) with two of my friends. Aren't they beautiful? They caused an unexpected intermezzo. When the package arrived with the three razors, I immediately posted the Type C to one of the above-mentioned friends. Easy come, easy go. Bismillah noo. Anyway. Then I went home and with the approval of the other guy, I tried the Type A, and posted it the next day. Then I loaded the Type B that I chose for myself, I still think that is the most beautiful razor ever made. I have put 3-4 blades into the magazine, put it together and it stuck in. As it turned out the seller has oiled up the mechanics for me, and the oil kept the blades together, and they just didn't come out, neither could I disassemble the thing. And I tried to force with no success, and I wounded my left thumb with the handle. Shit, I won't give up now. And forced it more, and seriously wounded my right thumb. Now that one did also hurt like hell, blood everywhere, and I felt miserable, because I got hold of three repeating razors, sent out two to friends, and was left alone with the third that turned out to be not functional. And the irony on top is that I made a bloodbath with a razor without a blade in it. I threw the thing in the corner, and was using real bad language. Somehow the next day I could take it apart without any hassle, dried the parts and it is of course fully functioning ever since. Did I say it is beautiful? The craftsmanship put into that single object is gorgeous, I love to take a look at it, and prepare it for the next shave. It works perfectly, although a bit on the mild side for my taste, but it has a regular part in my rotation, and can't wait to swap a blade in it just for fun. Although my favorite Personna injector blade lasts for over 12 three pass shaves, so it way too rarely happens. I'd love to have a mint Type A as well in my collection, that is also that beautiful. In the meanwhile, I started 3D modeling a replacement magazine, currently waiting for a new 3D printer to become available in my office. The first test print was almost OK, but that printer couldn't print the walls thin enough, our new one that is not publicly usable yet will be able to work with finer resolution. See it in her full glory:

I almost forget about this little thingy, I'll spin it for a ride tomorrow morning. Not that I'm attached to it as to my vintage beauties, but the black plastic thing developed for indian market with one edge counts as an SE, right? - Apparently it's not, post edited.

Sorry but I believe the above razor is a disposable so that does not go with our rules here. We only discuss true SE razors that take real blades. It will be best if you correct this. You will not want to be hit with bricks. Cordially Tom I removed it from the post. Can you do the same with your comment?
