Opinions please:
I've heard the E's the most aggressive but I've also heard it should shave the same as the G because the frame's the same.
What about the I ? How does it compare to the E & G ?
I've shaved a bit with the Stick Shick L type felt it was too mild. I'm currently using a G4 "66" and like it a lot,can I get anything different out of an E's performance ?

In my experience, the E is substantially more aggressive than the G. The frame looks the same, but I believe the blade gap is larger. I saw a thread or article about it a while back that had close-up pictures. I've cut myself worse with an E than any other razor, but with care it gives a great shave. The G is practically foolproof in my opinion.
I also have an "Easy rider" from 1969 or 70 that is my mildest injector.

I believe the differences that are felt between the E and G types is due to different manufacturing tolerances, wear and tear and maybe even some damage that individual razors may have incurred over the years. As best as i can tell nothing changed when they went to the G type except different handle material and color, until the G8 which has a different handle but the same frame. I'm sure the machines and manufacturing techniques were different/better in the late 40' and early 50's when compared to what they started out with in 1935 with the E types. I can detect differences between razors of the same type, for example I have a beautiful 66 with the textured finish that I don't believe was ever used before I got it. I have felt some razor burn after every time I used it, I really can't say that I've ever got a comfortable shave with it. On the other hand I have a well used G8 that rattles and you can almost load a blade by hand because there's so much play in the frame, but it does hold the blade securely. The G8 is a much better shaver than the 66, there's just something different in how they perform even though they share the same frame. If the 66 would've been my first injector I probably would've given up on them because that particular razor just doesn't work for me. I am on record as saying the I Types are my favorite, partly because they are my "birth era" razors and I'm pretty sure the one my dad gave me in 1971 was a black handle I1. I have several I1 and I2 Hydro-magics and they all seem to perform the same, which is very good. The I through M types all share the same frame but there are variations between razors even in the same class. Look at the picture of two of my J's and you can see the obvious difference. The length of the top of the frame on the one with the white handle is shorter, and that one is much more efficient than the black one. Why is there such a difference in razors that should be the same? Obviously there was something different in the manufacturing process when these were made, and that's what I think causes some injectors to feel differently, even though they should be the same, like the E and G types.

Wow, huge differences between those 2 razors Tom, thats amazing! I recently picked up a Stick Schick, havent shaved with it yet but I am curious as to the difference between it and an E or G

I scored a real nice clean cased Hydromagic I2 for less than they seem to be going for even uncased.Grabbed it from today's mail when I got home tonight.
I did a limited short test shave with it this evening.Seems to be every bit as effective as my G4 "66" ...if anything probably more effective and it shaves smoother.
Looking quickly I think the I2 has less gap but the edge of the blade is closer to the the edge of the guard bar and the guard bar is shaped differently than the G4's Whatever the differences are,I like it
I'm looking forward to tomorrow morning's shave.

For my money, The best shave possible outside of a gem damaskeeene, streamline, gem jr bar.... (old s.e. ) would be the injector E or I2 hydromagic. A, B, C,F --- way too mild G- not up to par copy of E, and it wont open without damaging the spring. I- simply the best shave out of an injector J- ehhhh its alright. the later models with long handles can be nice, if your legs need a shave, beyond that, theres not much special about them in my opinion.

for someone wanting to get into injectors for the first time... I say get
E- if you want aggressive shaving J- if you want very comfortable shaving due to long handle I2- if you want pure shaving bliss and super easy cleaning.

There's really very little need to focus on technique. Extremely nice...

When factoring in cost, are we better off just recommending Schicks to our shaving brethren?

I didn't see WillyB's response before my previous post, thanks brother.
Thanks y'all, really great info, the kind of stuff I was hoping to get out of this thread.I arrived late to the Party at the Shick's house but it looks like a great time.
Maybe all I2's shave as nice as this,or I got a lucky one.I'll have to pick up an E eventually and see what I get out of it,but I'm quite pleased right where I am.

The short answer's I'm not recommending anything until I score a backup or 2 ;D Good question Brian and one I considered following this morning's shave.Factor in cost ? I don't know that I do that.....a razor either clicks with me or it doesn't. I don't know that it needs to be an either or decision,If someone wants a somewhat unique razor that uses the Feather Pro type blades the Cobra's performance is outstanding. There's far worse ways to spend $169 although their build quality seems to be erratic. I learned that blades for the Cobra can be purchased inexpensively if you look around. Which Shick ? YMMV For me: Not type L or type G,I haven't piloted an E type yet. The Hydromatic's performance was for me,equal to the Cobra's and it's lighter, easier to maneuver and fits into tight spots better.I suspect the blade gap and position of the SE blade's edge in relation to the safety bar is the magic combination that works extremely well for me.

Like I said, all of my I types perform great. I'm glad I finally gave injectors a spin, been lurking & watching what you've been saying for a while. Before getting into the game I would have guessed the "E" types would be my thing, the older stuff usually is.I still haven't shaved with an "E" but the "I" type I'm using will be extremely tough to beat.

Are the non-Hydromagic I models good too? They are certainly are cheaper and easier to find...
