A member asked in another thread if the OC Damaskeene was more aggressive then its closed comb brother. I would say that it is. However it is not near as aggressive as the micro matics. Not sure what razor to compare it to. I know a few others have these razors. What do y'all think about them?

There is a post over on TOS. It was a split decision there. Some said mild some not. One said more aggressive then the ocmm.

Well now that I am the proud owner of one these little fellers - it is time to unveil its origins. Introducing the ORIGINAL Damaskeene!!! 1911 AdvertisementInterestingly, the razor is essentially the same as other 1912s, but with some important differences. Of course the open comb teeth, and the frame itself - the blade base is quite near flat. The date of this advertisement was posted as 1911 but I am not certain as the date is not on the ad itself. The OC I have has the 1912 pat stamp and would not likely be marketed in 1911. Not sure if there were 'unstamped' pat pending OCs??? Those of you with one please check and post here. The company address is of interest here as well.

That handle is quite different from the OC I picked up. I will post picks soon when I get a chance to break out the camera. I noticed a few differences worth point out between a Standard and this original OC Damaskeene. WCHNU - others with original OCD ( : , any info on the handles?

So.... The earlier models had the hollow handle? Was this called the Deluxe by any chance? I seem to remember Dave had one of those.

Waits has published a 1911 Xmas advertisement with a Gem DeLuxe kit posted - it seems to be a pretty similar handle but hard to tell what is up with the open end. Perhaps a cap that is missing?? I will try and post a pic of my handle - it is quite similar to a Standard style of handle found on the kits being sold throughout most of the WW1 decade, but it is not solid either, and rather has a cap inserted into the end making it complete. Nice thick plating on the frames on these too - quite a transition razor really - from the fancy Jr Bar and other LC styles into a cover cap loading style. Was there anything similar in 1911? ?

1911.... I thought the pat was not until 1912. Did they build some before they got the pat?

1911.... I thought the pat was not until 1012. Did they build some before they got the pat? Yeah - there is a Xmas ad for Dec 1911 with the DeLuxe - it is not the handle from the model above from Tom. There is also a DeLuxe version I have seen from 1916 (?) that seems to be a blend of the Gem Jr Damaskeene kit. They seem to have merged the kits right around that time and swapped out the heads of the Jr with the 1912 once the patents were in place. The 1912 Gem Jr Damaskeene (note the handle style) Here is my OC with the handle I was talking about. It is next to a Standard 1912 damaskeene. The model I have is seen in the 1911 ad above and the 1914 ad below The kit representations seem to be the same image in 1914 as they used in 1911. I have seen the model Tom has in the DeLuxe kit which appears to use handles designed for the Gem Jr Damasakeene (I will locate that ad and paste it here as well.) So, it seems that Gem was eager to launch the Damaskeene 1912 style and in fact did start to sell them at least by Xmas in 1911. They then seemed to phase out the Gem Jr Damaskeene and utilized parts to ramp up into the 1912 style. Getting close!
