February is an important date in the history of SE's because 100 years ago on February 27th patent number 1,018,783 was approved, and so began the start of the 1912 style frame. I sincerely believe this was the single best razor design in the history of the safety razor. In honor of this event I will be using nothing but 1912 style razors for the entire month of February. A copy of the patent can be seen here: www.google.com/patents/about/1018783_A_FIRM.html?id=xzIrAAAAEBAJ

Excellent post. I will join you in a month of 1912 style razors. Thanks for the information. Who else will join in?

OK, I'll try. Unfortunately I only have one 1912 style left. This will give me a chance to really get used to it. However, I can't guarantee Sunday, those days I use my favorite, the OCMM.

February 27th is my birthday too. Coincidence?

Well, I now know when they started making them, I'd be curious to know when they produced the last 912 style that had the Gem name on it. Probably no way to find that out.

Alan I think you're right, unless there are some records buried in the vaults if ASR with production dates etc that someone can find we'll never know. We do know from old ads that they were still being sold into at least the late 40's.

Great catch on this HT. The 1912 becomes a centenarian. I used a Damaskeene today so I guess you must have been sending some psychic impressions!

I wish the 1912 worked well enough for me to give it a full month. If it wasn't a leap year then I'd consider it, but that 29th day is just a deal breaker for me.

I will participate as much as I can. I'm still testing vintage _E blades that were given to me by a gent on SMF and he is curious to know how I like them. So I sort of take that as a responsibility. But I will use only 1912s when I use SE.
Does that mean 1912, Damaskeene and Jr. ? If so, I won't get bored.

I'd say any of the variations of the 1912 patent frame would qualify. I'll be starting out the month with an open comb 1912 Damaskeene, the model that started it all. I will be using several variants. From the more usual 1912 Gem Star and ER razors, and the travel types also the military sets. If it has a different handle or whatever it is a different razor to me. I think the Treet I have is a 1912 style also but since it has a solid bar instead of an open comb I am not sure if it fits.
I do not know how many different combinations there are but I think I will get the group together and see about a pic sometime in the future.

I should mention that I can't take credit for this, amishmotorboat mentioned it first on B&B. Great catch on this HT. The 1912 becomes a centenarian. I used a Damaskeene today so I guess you must have been sending some psychic impressions!

I am thinking that a 1912 SOTD thread is in order for the Month.

Is the EverReady 24/14 a 1912 variant?
