If I hear Heavy Flat Top one more time. G-Bar sounds much sexier. Who came up with this flat top crap anyway? ::)Heavy Flat Top sounds like a bad haircut.

Ya know - before the name G Bar was coined in 2006 by a crazy online shaver dood like us - it was called, well, a razor! The G Bar name sort of caught on and grew to be used with this, well, this shiny plated single edge razor. Nobody is coming clean with good evidence to back up the HFT name, so I'm afraid that I still refer to it as a G Bar - sexy or not! It is better than calling it a, well, shiny razor! And much more appropriate than a name that can't be backed up with anything other than the toot of the Pied Pipers flute! Would love to see a definitive advertisement where they put a name on it - but, if you check out the (shudder) Heavy Flat Top thread theoriginalsafetytoo.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=discussion&action=display&thread=64 on this site where we explored the name for this, shiny razor, nothing came of it. So - I will applaud spinyeel for his boldness to go where no man has had the kahunas to go! VIVA LA G BAR - THE SHINY RAZOR! ;D (This is hopefully just a fun exercise!! I wouldn't intend it any other way!! )

Just look at the text under my avatar of, as I now call it... The Enigma!
HFT, G-Bar, Slim-V... who knows?!?! What I do know is that HFT is the easiest & quickest to type while G-Bar just rolls off the tongue easier (yep I said it & admit it).

I like the Avatar text - ya know - this is turning out to be our number one issue to resolve here at TOST and your avatar text should keep it in mind!

Slim V Flat Top works for me. It's my favourite razor.

I tend to agree that G-Bar sounds better than Heavy Flat Top. And given the absence of any credible evidence for one or the other anything'll do. The Flying Wing I think is almost worse. Give me the name Bullet tip any day. It's unmistakeable as no other SE looks like it. You could argue that G-Bar is wrong as GEM made Featherweights also have the 'G' on the handle. Ever Ready made Featherweights obviously don't. Although some of the SE names are a bit daft (Clog Pruf for instance) I can stomach them a lot better than some of the pompous names given to DEs such as Senator, Aristocrat etc. There's enough material here for some post graduate degree in something or other.

Great stuff!! Glad to see this open up again! I personally like the G Bar moniker too. Heavy Flat Top is awkward and uncomfortable to say. The evidence for it just isn't around, and like Blobby points out, a name like Bullet Tip is perfect for that razor, whether or not it was the appropriate 'marketing' title. Our Canadian one dollar coin - we call it a loonie. It just became that somehow and it works. 'G Bar' works. Glad you posted Azarius - thats 3 for 'G Bar'.

Fine, fine G-Bar it is. I still like Flying Wing, I guess because I served in the Air Force.

I'll stick with Heavy Flat Top :-). I like the contrast to the Feather Weight.

Fine, fine G-Bar it is. I still like Flying Wing, I guess because I served in the Air Force. Initially I thought it was a cool name because I was under the impression that Flying Wing was a reference to the shape of the cut out in the plate. Only to discover that I was confused with the Clug Pruf, which has got the wing shaped cut out. The confusion gets even worse when you start abbreviating as FW can then refer to either Featherweight or Flying Wing. You can't go wrong with BT (Bullet tip). There must be a chair at some university for this branch of history.

I prefer HFT because it's obvious that it and the FW (Feather Weight, not Flying Wing) were designed to have the same style head but with polar opposite handle weights to achieve different levels of aggression & to appeal to a wider rang of people. Maybe we'll just have to agree that it's both a HFT & G-bar.
Honestly, though, I think I'll stick with the Enigma moniker to continue having some fun with this. Oh yeah, this thread coming back up has definitely inspired an Enigma shave to be happening tomorrow morning before church!

ASR didn't seem to push sales of this razor very hard, I've yet to find a single ad for it. Seems odd how they assigned model names to some and not to others, like the Clog-pruf had the name stamped on every one but the only reference to Flying Wing was in ads. The Feather Weight, Push Button and Contour I and II all were clearly identified by name as well.
