I've got a couple I enjoy.... I guess my favorite is a Lock & Co. 'Sandown'....An English made Fur Felt....This is supposed to be the oldest family business in the World. They opened at their current location at #6 St. James Street, London in 1676... They made hats for Admiral Nelson, invented the Bowler hat...and....well there are books written about this company, their history is very interesting...I don't need to write one here. Point being...After making this hat's acquaintance, I can see, these folks have stayed in business for a reason...and thats not because they have a name...They have a name because they have always produced an extraordinary product! Mine is a new hat I bought maybe 3 years ago...But its put together very well. I wear it all the time, Rain, Sleet or Snow. And it protects me like it loves me...}8^)) I don't want to tempt fate, but it hasn't shrunk one iota and keeps me warm in the Winter and Cool in the Summer...Can't ask for more than that! This is last Thursday, hiking in the rain....When I got home the hat was soaked, even my raincoat was drenched but I was dry. I hung the hat on a hat hook in a cool room. Next morning it was dry as a bone and looked better than ever... And this is yesterday sking...As you can see, it looks no worse for all the abuse, and thats my standard mo...Just cause it's a classic fedora, it get's no free rides around here. And because of that, I've actually really bonded with this piece of fur felt...Don't leave home without it on most days, but then in Seattle you never know when it might rain... Lets see what you guys like to cover your heads with....Time to show off them "Sky-pieces"

That pic was taken in the smoking room of my local cigar shop. I will probably be back there this afternoon.

I mostly wear a wide brim lightweight Tilly when I'm out and about among people, shopping or whatnot. I have a ventilated one for summer and unventilated for winter. This is what the vented one looks like. BTW, I didn't pay that for the hat. www.tilley.com/us_en/men/new/t4mo-1-hikers-hat.htmlIf I'm working outside I wear a bill fishermans hat. It looks something like a baseball cap but with a long bill, and an edge on the sides and rear to keep the sun off of me. I couldn't find a picture of it online. For shooting I have been wearing a baseball cap, but I have a set of Walker's ear buds coming in that will allow me to wear any hat when shooting. I prefer longer brims or bills since I wear eyeglasses and I really dislike anything getting on the lenses.

Great hats guys and Fuzzy you look great in yours Man,....Styling! I see you both like working hats, me too! Years ago I Was dabbling in Fly fishing...and after that movie : A River Runs Through It" I always wanted a good fedora to put fly-lures in like: If I was still fly-fishing, I think the rode hard fedora loaded with lures is the way to go.....Shoot, living up here around Seattle I should pick it up again...Ton of great places close by...

Years ago while living in Istanbul I picked up a Blue Borsalino that was made around the time I was born...I loved that hat and wore it out. There was a hole in the pinch, it eventually shrunk too small, and the brim was starting to tear. I kept it for sentimental reasons. Well here in Seattle, actually in Bremerton on one of the islands is one of the best custom hatters around. I dropped by to visit and he ask for me to let him try his hand with that Borsalino. Check out the Master's Magic:

Fuzzy, I can't picture you in any other type of hat. But clearly you have others that you wear.
Gotta love hats with a brim to protect the glasses gents. I don't much wear them for style but for practicality. My bill fisherman's hat is downright ugly and strange looking.
With the new hearing protection coming in I can wear another style of hat with a better brim than a baseball cap. Any suggestions? The Tilleys brim is worn to come down in the front a bit and that could potentially cut off areas I need to see.
Maybe a bill fishermans hat with a full flap in the back for sun protection. There's little shade to be found on the range. Something like that fedora with the flies, that could also work. I'm asking for suggestions.

Akubra has been making a bullet proof hat for all kinds of roughing it...Hats never went out of style in Austrailia. Ranchers, hunters, farmers, Outback types aswell as just people who work outdoors in the elements, or to protect you from the Sun....In Austrailia guys wear furfelt year round, and the hats are ventilated and made to handle. Years ago Stetson set up a factory there and when they left; the factory stayed in operation and became Akubra. Here's a link, and if you call, ask for Sam : everythingaustralian.com.au/headwear/fedora.html?category_style=986%2C994There are some U.S. Dealers but you can't beat EA....their prices are super...and right now with the current exchange rate you can get a STEAL !! I think, from what you have said...you would want a snap brim. That way you can snap it up when you want or down when you don't need it up...Same in the back...Down if you want to keep the sun off your neck or up if it's raining... The "Camp Draft" is one of the most popular does everything kind of hats...Very much like that Fly fishing hat with the lures.....but I just threw that out there...if the Camp Draft is too big...They have a huge selection...But I would stick with the Akubras....and probably the fedora types....Ohh yeah, and I highly recommend you get an 'Open Crown'.... That way you can shape it any way you want....They are more versatile and also the felt is softer and shapable as opposed to the preshaped ones.... And if you decide you like a certain model, but want the brim an inch shorter for instance or any type of customizing...Just call them...They do it all....but of course you have to wait longer...Normally they get stuff to you super fast! Anyway....let me know what you think.... Man...I just checked and like their best fur felt hats are like under $100....These hats last longer than we do...they are worth far more than that price....

They would not get in the way and are light for summer use. This is just something I ran across in a quick search to show the style I am talking about. link. Resistol has this one that I just might have to get. link

Heres a link to some custom made milans by Peter Bros down TX way...Some friends of mine got some and the quality was amazing! But I see they are running a buck fifty www.pbhats.com/MILAN%20STRAW/Default.htmThis is a killin straw for just over a buck...I might pick one of these up this year...This new Stetson milan is very durable and better made than their other milans which are like plastic, but this one is the real deal... www.delmonicohatter.com/product/TSSESTB6124.htm
