Well hiking season officially opened for me and my wife this passed Wednesday. As some of you know she had a really bad skiing accident Jan.3rd, and she hasn't been able to actually hike until this week...YOORAH!!! Plus a got a new Fedora...So I'm posting these hiking pics here on the hat thread...This one is an Austrailia Akubra like I was telling you; ShadowsDad; about...although I ordered this one here in the States.... We got some BIG @$$ trees around here!!!! BTW....Brian...heres the US distributor for those Austrailian hats....These guys are suppose to be great people to do business with : www.davidmorgan.com .......although I picked this one up at a local Hat store that is closing..been there since the 1930's and shutting down next month...a sign of the times, although sales are up!! But progress is tearing down these old business buildings downtown to make way for bigger buildings! Ahh progress...gotta love it! I reccommend getting any of the ones that come with an open crown..so you can "bash" it your way...and change it how ever you feel that day....I'm not real fond of factory looking creases....}8^))

Happy to here your wife is able to get out and hike. I love your hat. My wife says I look like Stan Laurel with anything other than a ball cap. Barons Hat is litterly around the corner from me. These are the cats that make the hats for Hollywood. They have been around forever. I should sneak over one day and have them fit me with the correct style hat for my Mellon. 7-5/8 to 7-3/4. Once I get one there will be no returning it. 😊

Thanks guys....Yep...Her making this hike was big for us...And she didn't just make it....first half she shot through like a rabbit! Lol! She was very happy to be outdoors!
Thanks Tom......I hear ya about Barons...I've been hip to them for years....But their prices are up there...quality is too, but he's got that Hollywood name, therefore he has the Hollywood prices...I see on his web site that he'll finance his hat for you and you can make installments like a morgage...lol...But I bet an afternoon at his place would be a ton of fun!

I think he would be helpful in getting a hat that fits my stature and head shape. I can take that knowledge to a reasonably priced hatter. My son looks good in any hat. I am very jealous.

Down here in the oven of America, that is Texas, I've noticed a trend. Straw hats really are a thing to have. I have 2, one is a "beater" a working hat. It is a 10x big leaf straw cowboy hat, with a 3.5 inch brim. I bend the back if mine down to cover the neck, and the front in a "ropers bend. " The other straw I have is a resistol. It is the same style that the highway patrol wears down here. As far as felt hats go, I have one that was my grandfather's, from Roberts hat shop, in Abilene Texas, and it has to be before 1975, Since Roberts closed down in that year. I also have a grey 10x beaver that is a no name, just a store brand. But it is a good working hat, and the 2 of us have seen many a mile.

You are 100% correct.....You can find out a ton of stuff about you size, whether you are an "oval" or "long oval"...What looks better on you, a tall crown or a short crown and what width brim looks best on you....You can learn a ton of stuff in one really fun visit....especially with a good cat like that...He'll answer all those questions right off the bat...cause he knows what he's doing...And you can use that info the rest of your life...};^))

Past few years, my wife gets me a new hat around this time. This was last week... Check out the Scene...this is anywhere you pull off the highway around North Bend WA... Check out the Hat....Panama Fedora from Ultrafino Seatle. When I got it, it looked great...but maybe a little too perfect, with the factory crease...So I steamed it out, and reshaped it...Now it's mine...

I am always grabbing a cap/hat whenever I go outside. It is usually one of my veteran caps. Or one of my son's Navy caps (USS Gerald R. Ford) Or I will grab this one for yard work.
