Sooooooooo. What do you folks think about can goo? I am ok with it now and again. Not part of the traditional set up I know. I think I have used it twice in 9 years or so. Both times to show support across the street. Barbasol seems the best. Let's hear what TOSTers think.

When I used it I used gel. I far preferred it over traditional canned goop. I probably still have a can in the cabinet. It's there because I far prefer real lather.
When I was working, every once in awhile my coworkers would need to shave to get a seal on a face mask. One gent came to see me to get shave gear prior to entry into an area that didn't contain a breathable atmosphere. I had to laugh. He'd obviously never used gel before and had a face loaded with far too much lather and hand with the same condition, and the look in his eyes that said WTF? Gel goes on thin and expands into lather.

I have NOT used any goo since I started wet shaving 6-7 years ago. It has been all soap since then and have no plans on going back. To me building the lather is part of the process and experience of wet shaving, almost therapeutic. Canned goo came along in modern society as a convenience, a new technology. A why to make the morning shave faster. That is not what wet shaving is about. For me wet shaving is about enjoying the shave and getting a better shave than I could with modern cart razor. So I say canned goo is not for me but you can use anything you like. I have had this conversation across the street after I called someone a heretic and posted a Monty Python meme for using the goo.

I'm also ok with it, from time to time and mostly when traveling or when I'm in a hurry. My favourites are the Barbasol Classic or Skin Conditioner and the Proraso Yellow can (shea butter)

I shaved with the gel stuff before moving to soaps. I've also used the original Barbasol. I preferred the gel to Barbasol, but Barbasol did keep the bathroom mirror from fogging. Not important--just interesting.
Overall, I found the performance of the canned stuff to be sufficient for safety-razor shaving. It just doesn't provide the experience of soap/cream and a brush.
These days I keep a stick of Tabac in the travel kit. I use it if I need to shave and am pressed for time.

I switched to gel back in the days prior to being reborn TWS....Around Christmas 2009 I started using Gel with a brush and a Chinese made "Unmentionable".... Then right after New Years 2010 my Wife left a stick of Arko on the sink....I had no idea or experience about those...Curiousity killed the cat....or killed the canned goo in this case! The Arko exploded into lather, best shave ever with a newly acquired Vintage adjustable "Unmentionable"...The Edge went into the trash and I never looked back...
Until last week....folks across the Street were hollering and screaming about Barbasol....I've ignored that scene because for me;like Garner; making the lather is as much a part of the process as shaving...But I saw that Barbasol thread and a picture of the menthol Arctic Chill, and I had a quick flashback: I was Senior in High School and still living with my parents on their ranch outside of Richmond VA. Dad and I were repairing fencing to keep the horses in...I hadn't shaved in a week and was looking kind of ratty and Pop says, "Tomorrow morning, you're going to have to try standing a little closer to your razor when you shave.!" He didn't bat an eye, or crack a smile...I fell out..My Pop was a riot with a very dry wit... I said something about, yeah....I had been lazy and not shaving...And he says..."Tomorrow, go in my bathroom and get that can of shave cream off the back of my sink....theres enough Menthol in there to put hair on your chest!" I fell out again....I always loved helping my Pop with working around the ranch...we always had alot of laughs...
Well the next morning I followed his advice and froze my face off and loved it...Sooo this pic of the Arctic Chill inspired me to buy a can at Walgreens...less than $2....Thats about the price of that stuff back in the late '60's....So I tried it...Loved it.....Got a fantastic 2 pass with W-H touch-up (ala Fuzzy) BBS!!! Then splashed with Skin Bracer and it was like that morning I tried Dad's can of Menthol shaving cream....Only this time I used good technique and my Schick F-type....Course when I tried Dad's I was using a Schick injector then too....only they weren't vintage then....Now the razor and I am Vintage...LMAO!!!
So....What can I say....I actually love the Barbasol Arctic Chill....it works downright great and feels amazing! I can't argue with results and must give credit where credit is due. And this cream also leaves my face feeling soft and not dried out like Canned goo and the gels used to do...
I still love my Williams and my Arko, and the time spent with brush in hand....but I also do love this great Menthol canned goo that Barbasol is putting out....Ohh and then I checked out a can of Gi!!@tt@ Foamy Menthol and it was more burning than cooling and did dry my.face out...Thumbs down...a completely different experience!

I'm going with the heretic approach.
: )
I used Barbasol mostly when I used to use goo. Not for ten years now anyway. Birdlives descriptions almost tease me into thinking positively about it, but nah, not for me.

It did get me back into menthol....I'm thinking I need the order TSD's M Bomb, so I can double the menthol in my C.O.Bigelow tubed cream, and get that fix with my Williams....uh oh...Fuzz-man, adding a little menthol to my Williams is not "molesting" is it?? I mean Williams used to have their own Menthol Soap back in the day...

Wow....I can't believe you just said that!!! Earlier today I squirted the right amount of C.O.Bigelow creme into a mug with a splash of Skills n-Bracer, and then whipped it up in to my brush and face lathered.... Got a great lather...but also the S-B boosted the menthol fix to exceptable....still not killing...but very nice!
Tomorrow I'll try that with my Williams....Williams Wednesday is on Thursday this week for me...

Adding a spladh of After shave is no big deal. However..... It is molesting to mix with other soap or cream.

Well, I adding a healthy dose of skin bracer to my Williams yesterday and nothing...I think I need the TSD M bomb if I want a Williams with a bonafide menthol kick... The Williams still gave me a fine shave....only thing it got from the S-B was the scent, but I already like the scent of Williams, I was looking for the menthol...}8^D

With that TSD M Bomb, I'd just drop 3 drops on top of the Cake of Williams in the Mug and hit it with a wet brush swirling.....

I will have to try making me some M Bomb Williams.?. But first I have to use up some of the shaving soap I have on hand. Couldn't I mix Williams with C.O. Bigelow. No can't do that. That would be molesting the Williams and I don't want Fuzzy to get the Brick out.
