OCtober Wiliams WednesdayPre-Shave: Hot Shower Brush: JR #180, 22mm Badger Soap: WilliamsRazor: Valet VC2, Autostrop Blade: Feather FAS-10 Carbon Steel(CS), Feather Seikan (6) Strop: Amish made Post-Shave: Cold Water rinse, OSMA Alum block and Tai Winds After Shave, Big Blue Whistle Decanter, Avon Photo: View AttachmentIt's Williams Wednesday gentlemen. The JR #180 whipped up a hell of a lather with the Williams this morning. Almost did not partake in the festivities today. I still looked good on my cheeks but my neck needed a little shave. Last minute I decided on a two pass shave that left me with such a close shave with little to no irritation that we will call this another BBS shave. Finished of the shave with the quiet alum block then a newly acquired Tai Winds AS. Stropped the fifteen times before the shave and another ten times afterward. The blade is still going strong and shows no sign of quieting yet. I do believe that this blade will out live the un-stropped blade but how much longer is yet to be seen. (Sotto voice)pssssttttttt. It's the 18th.

OCtober
Pre-Shave: Hot Shower Brush: JR #180, 22mm Badger Soap: Lavender EO, Castle Forbes Shaving Cream Razor: Valet VC2, Autostrop Blade: Feather FAS-10 Carbon Steel(CS), Feather Seikan (7) Strop: Amish made Post-Shave: Cold Water rinse, OSMA Alum block and Lilac Vegetal AS (Veg), Pinaud Photo: Stropped the blade fifteen times before the shave. Today was the 7 th shave on the blade. It is still smooth and giving nice close shaves. Continuing with trying to find a soap that goes with the Veg. today I paired it up with CF Lavender. I have posted before about the CF but for the benefit of those of you are new or didn't read it, the lather and slickness is top notch. Well worth the price. The scent for me is.... a little strong. I had a gentleman in the UK say that it was a proper British Lavender. Maybe that's why I find it just a little off putting, I'm not British. I am able to get a DFS easily from two passes and that is all I was trying for in hopes that I might be able to shave again tomorrow. Finished of the shave with a cold water rinse followed by the alum block, that gave just the slightest bit of feed back at the bottom of my neck. Topped it all of with a splash of the Veg. Eureka! I found the soap for Veg. They pair very well together and in MHO smell pretty good together. A case of "The sum of the parts". Stropped the blade another ten times, than put it until tomorrow.

OCtober Shave Number 8Pre-Shave: Hot Shower Brush: JR #180, 22mm Badger Soap: Badger Shaving Soap Razor: Valet VC2, Autostrop Blade: Feather FAS-10 Carbon Steel(CS), Feather Seikan (8) Strop: Amish made Post-Shave: Cold Water rinse, OSMA Alum block and Lilac Vegetal AS (Veg), Pinaud Photo: This was my shave on Saturday morning but I don't get time to post my shaves like I would like on the weekend, they are just to busy. I used this Badger brand soap last time and did not get good results from it, so I wanted to give it a second chance. This time I use a drier brush and loaded the soap like I hated it and was trying to use it up. I gave a much thicker lather but after stropping the blade fifteen times the lather had dissipated yet again. I reapplied lather and got a good first pass. I went to pick up my brush for the second pass and accidentally knocked it in the sink full of water and had to reload the brush. Kept the shave just to two passes with the weak performance from the soap also was hoping to shave again on Sunday morning. After two passes I had a DFS, not quite BBS but close. Continuing to find what pairs up with the Veg well. I pulled out the Veg and applied it liberally hoping it may be the saving grace of this soap. NOPE, the soap didn't do that real well either, it was okay just not great like the Castle Forbes did. This soap has now been move over to the shower and I will use it up there as a bath soap. I finished by stropping the blade ten more times before putting it up. I started out the month of October as a test to see if stropping a modern carbon blade would lengthen the life of the blade. When I didn't strop the blade I got 8 shaves from the blade. This shave was number 8 on the stropped blade and the blade is still going strong giving consistently smooth and close shaves from shave number 1 to number 8. You can then conclude that, "Yes, Stropping a modern blade will lengthen the life of the blade.". What I did find out unexpectedly was that stropping the blade also made the shave both smoother and closer. Those of you who have tried CS blades and did not get good shaves from them I would suggest stropping the blade and trying it again, but as we all know YMMV. I got a new Al General Razor and some Artist blades that I will be using next. When I come back to the Valet and this blade I will post the shaves here. I will continue with this thread to see how long this blade will last but as for now I want to play with my new razor.

OCtober+1 Shave Pre-Shave: Hot Shower Brush: 28mm Faux Finest Badger, Frank Shaving(FS) Soap: La Toja Stick Soap Razor: Valet VC2, Autostrop Blade: Feather FAS-10 Carbon Steel(CS), Feather Seikan (9) Strop: Amish made Post-Shave: Cold Water rinse and Oland After Shave, Avon, Pheasant Decanter Photo: I went back to the Valet razor on Saturday and will continue to use it for the remainder of the month. Luckily for me the month only has a couple more days. I got the La Toja soap from a recommendation from prometeo about a week ago when I ordered some artist blades for my General Razor. It is a harder soap than Arko but produces a very thick lather just like Arko. Stropped the blades 15 more times before the shave than did 3 passes with the razor. Finished off a DFS shave with some Oland AS. The blade still shows no signs of decline with +1 shaves than the non-stropped blade. Stropped the blade another 10 more times than hung it up for the next shave.

OCtoberMenthol Monday +2 ShavePre-Shave: Hot Shower Brush: 28mm Faux Finest Badger, Frank Shaving(FS) Soap: C.O. Bigelow Razor: Valet VC2, Autostrop Blade: Feather FAS-10 Carbon Steel(CS), Feather Seikan (10) Strop: Amish made Post-Shave: Cold Water rinse and Oland After Shave, Avon, Pheasant Decanter Photo: Menthol Monday was another great shave from the Valet. Stropped the blade fifteen then did a three pass shave that left me with a DFS. Finished of with some Veg and stropping the blade another fifteen times for tomorrows shave. With this little test/exercise I have found that stropping a modern CS blade does indeed make an impact on the blade, at least the FAS-10 CS blades when used in a Valet Autostrop Razor. It makes the shave much smoother. It has also prolonged the usefulness life of the blade.

OCtober+3 ShavePre-Shave: Hot Shower Brush: 28mm Faux Finest Badger, Frank Shaving(FS) Soap: Smolder, Blades Grim homemade shave stick Razor: Valet VC2, Autostrop Blade: Feather FAS-10 Carbon Steel(CS), Feather Seikan (11) Strop: Amish made Post-Shave: Cold Waterrinse and Wild Country After Shave, Avon, Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt, 26th President of the United States Decanter Photo: Today is the last day of Open Comb OCtober. I have spent the last month minus 5 shaves using my Autostrop Valet VC2 with a carbon steel blade. Today's shave was another very good 3 pass shave. You could classify it either a very high DFS or a low BBS. Stropped the blade fifteen time before and another ten after the shave. Finished the shave with some vintage Avon Wild Country AS.
