28 OCtober+1 Shave Pre-Shave: Hot Shower Brush: 28mm Faux Finest Badger, Frank Shaving(FS) Soap: La Toja Stick Soap Razor: Valet VC2, Autostrop Blade: Feather FAS-10 Carbon Steel(CS), Feather Seikan (9) Strop: Amish made Post-Shave: Cold Water rinse and Oland After Shave, Avon, Pheasant Decanter Photo: View AttachmentI went back to the Valet razor on Saturday and will continue to use it for the remainder of the month. Luckily for me the month only has a couple more days. I got the La Toja soap from a recommendation from prometeo about a week ago when I ordered some artist blades for my General Razor. It is a harder soap than Arko but produces a very thick lather just like Arko. Stropped the blades 15 more times before the shave than did 3 passes with the razor. Finished off a DFS shave with some Oland AS. The blade still shows no signs of decline with +1 shaves than the non-stropped blade. Stropped the blade another 10 more times than hung it up for the next shave. Godd La Toja!!!!

9 November +4 ShavePre-Shave: Hot Shower Brush: Omega Boar Brush 81064 Soap: Irish Traveller, Mystic Waters Razor: Valet VC2, Autostrop Blade: Feather FAS-10 Carbon Steel(CS), Feather Seikan (12) Strop: Amish made Post-Shave: Cold Water rinse, OSMA Alum block and British Sterling After Shave Photo: I went back to the Autostrop this morning. I now have 12 shaves on the CS blade. First outing with the Mystic Waters Irish Traveller soap. I got it as I thought and still do think it smells a lot like Irish Spring soap. I like the soap. Nothing to write home about other than the scent but I like it. Let me use it a couple more times and I will give a full write up on it. I did three passes this morning, not BBS like the General gets but a DFS all the same. Finished off with the British Sterling and now I am ready to meet the day head on.

14 November +7 Shave
Pre-Shave: Hot Shower Brush: Omega Boar Brush 81064 Soap: Palmolive Stick Razor: Valet VC2, Autostrop Blade: Feather FAS-10 Carbon Steel(CS), Feather Seikan (15) Strop: Amish made Post-Shave: Cold Water rinse and Blend 7 After Shave, Avon, Stutz Bearcat 1914 Decanter Photo: Coming Soon
First shave back home after a weekend get away. The blade is still smooth, though maybe not as close as it once was. I stropped it twenty five time before the shave this morning. I was mindlessly stropping and before I knew it I had counted eighteen strokes. Did three passes end with some Blend 7 AS another DFS. Stropped the blade another ten times before hanging the razor back up.

Did two passes that left me with a DFS.

I tried stropping a Treet blade with my new strop. Sadly it is just as I remembered. Took a good blade and made it into junk. Oh well.

I've always been intrigued with the old stropping machines and mechanisms. Great vintage pieces of design and machination! If they'd be at all beneficial on our modern stainless blades? Possibly with a stropping paste or fabric? The mechanical side of me is dying to try one, but I'd rather not waste the $$ if there's no benefit (or a regression in blade performance...).

Yes....it was a PAL. GarnerPW is getting some good results. I am not sure why I do not. I have tried several times with vintage valet strops and hoped the new strop would help. It did not yet. I will try stropping it more and see. Do you have a valet strop? I would be happy to loan you the stropper handle.

After some more research I may forego my quest to strop and maintain a modern SE blade, especially the stainless Gems I use. I've read hit and miss results on this, with more misses it seems.

I am sorry to hear about your results Fuzzy. pisces0 stropping a stainless blade will do nothing for it. You have to strop the carbon steel blades. I used a CS blade that was made for scrapping paint this morning that now has ten(10) shaves on it and was able to get a BBS shave. Now mind you, YMMV, but in my mind stropping my CS blades does help no matter what Fuzzy says.

My mechanical side completely geeks out on this thing. Its all gears, rollers and clamps. I LOVE IT! I have some carbon Gems I'll give this an exercising with.

GarnerPW I noticed your recent SOTD post over on TSD. You used an ER stropping machine on a Red Devil blade. I picked one of these up recently, along with a Star/Kampfe stropper, but don't have a leather strop for either. What are the dimensions of your strop? Leather width and thickness are my main concerns. Thanks! Attachments:
