John, ROTFLMAO! I was thinking the same thing and then you wrote "diabolical" for me. ;D Hey, she likes 'em, what can I say!? ;D Probably the best cheap brush I ever bought were the 133 $.50 chinese boar brushes I bought from a local insurance/salvage retail outlet. I about soiled my undies when I saw them . No great quality, and at first I passed on them. But I bought all of the bin and passed them on at cost, retaining 13 for me to hand out. I have a few left and I have to admit the brush is pretty darn good. It's in my rotation and it's every bit as good as my other brushes. At first I would cringe at the thought of trying it, price and all you know, but they are actually quite decent little brushes. I scour the personal care aisle looking for more insurance claim shave gear but so far no other good stuff in a year. Lots of cartridge and canned junk, but all junk IMO. As far as the wife figuring it out... I have repeatedly remarked to her that she might want to change her blade. She gets (no exaggeration) 6 months of shaving from one blade. She just uses bath soap for lube too. I know, I've offered to set her up with proper shave soap. Anyway, she was using Derbys, and since she doesn't know a sharp blade from a Dorco, I told her I was exchanging her blades and if she didn't like it just trash the blade and she could go back to what she was using. She hasn't let out a sound. It'll be 10 years before she runs out of Dorcos, and by then senility will have set in and neither one of us will know what we're doing anyway. ;D

Brian: how does the p160 smell compared to Cell? I have a red tub of Cella & to my nose it's cherry & almond. Some sniffs may produce a more bitter almond smell, but most of the time for me & my wife we just get a sweet cherry & almond scent from it. I've heard great things about the p160. How long before your senile & I can have your wife swap out the p160 for Bigelow & take back her Derby's? I kid, I kid, but seriously what? Another 10 years or so??? (insert sarcasm font for most of paragraph, just not saying which parts!)

Well, I'm hoping we can put off senility for a bit longer. But one never knows. See my response in the other p.160 thread for a more detailed description of the scent as it hits my nose. I'm not a fan of Cellas scent is the short version. I don't get bitterness at all, it's just far too busy on my nose. Like it doesn't know what it wants to be, so let's be all of it. Some scents can't dodge busyness, but almond is pretty easy to keep simple and achieve more by being less. There must be some advantage to being what it is. I just don't know what that is.

I picked up some Gems this week. Now I have to decide which one to use for my very first SE shaving experience.

Nice assortment. I would vote a 1912 to start with. Second choice the featherweight.

Nice haul! The Featherweight and the Heavy Flat Top (G-bar) share the same head and are the mildest IMO, so one of those to start. I'd pick the FW if it was me. OK, I learned to blade shave this time around with a FW, so I'm definitely prejudiced toward it. The rest are all fairly aggressive, so toss a coin for those. BTW, they are all very good shavers, just that some are more efficient than others, but that's what using them is all about. What blades do you have? BTW John, how much do you bet I'm going to have some soaps for COTD?

The fellow who sold me most of the razors sent a few Looks brand blades, and I bought a few Gem SS blades to try also before investing in Ted Pellas.

Nice catch!! It looks like you are ready to rock in the GEM world! I would listen to these guys about choice as I have not yet tried a FW or a HeavyFatTop-GBar (HFTGB ;D). Ive tried the MMs and the 1912s and dammys. The 1912 was my first and I was absolutely in love from the very first drag of the blade!! Those darn things resonate such a lovely sound that it is indeed an entire experience!! The MMs are too heavy of construction to get that great sound going. I really enjoy the 1912 style razor and think you can get a great shave from them. I'm still pretty unthrilled with the MMs although I did get a good shave once lately and was silly enough to post that here! SD might have something suggesting the less aggressive shavers. But, it seems to me that most folks do not rely on the HFTGB or the GEM Feather once they have tried em. They tend to focus on 1912s (and some loopy doods on the MMS!!! lol!). So - go right to the 1912 bypassing the easy route?? Dunno. You must decide!! Of course, you could go straight for the Flying Wing Muahahahahhhaaahahaha

The past week I’ve been busy (and successful) towards nurturing my SE-RAD… Having been a faithful GEM 1912-Man over the recent years, I have been bitten a couple of weeks back by the Injector bug. So I went fishing. As part of the catch, I’ve pulled in a magnificent gold-plated 1965 Schick Adjustable M1 Injector. Funnily enough, I am usually not at all inclined towards 'gold-plated' razor, but this Adjustable just did it for me. I simply couldn't resist. As a razor is nice to look at but close to useless without blades, I got myself, 20 of the Schick Eversharp Custom Injector blades in Golden (??) Swedish Steel as well as 4 packs (total of 28 blades) of NOS Personna Ultra-Chrome, Electro-coated Injector blades from the '60's. For good measure and for comparison with these fine NOS Vintage blades, I threw in a box of 20 Personna stainless PFTE coated Injector blades. Am curious to find out how these modern-era blades compare to the ‘electro-coated’ Personnas from close to 50 years ago… Last but not least, I was told this morning that I was a lucky bugger and that a fellow wet shaver on a different Forum had PIF’ed me 3 GEMs; one of them a Micromatic, another one a Featherweight and the third one, a gold-plated one with a black handle, a model I am sadly not familiar with. Yet. Excellent start of the week! All of these orders should arrive within the next few days; I will be in Single Edge Heaven. Unfortunately, I am unable to link up the pictures from the NOS blades, don't know why it won't work. Anyone wants to see them, send me a PM and I will worward you the link to my similar post on a different site where the pics are visible. Apologies for the inconvenience.
