I just read an article from Mantic59 about collecting. It got me thinking on why some of us collect. I would love to hear your stories.
For me as I assume a lot of us. It started wanting to try and find a razor that agrees with me. Only to learn from experience that most razors well give great shaves. When starting this journey I thought I knew how to shave.
After realizing I didn’t. I did what everybody preached. Pick one razor and stick with it for a month or more. Once I was able to get good consistent shaves with an unmentionable. I stumbled across a 1912. One shave and I was sold. The SE razors were the one for me.
I fell in love with the looks with them to boot. So I started searching out SE and injectors. Finding what ever I could. It makes me happy finding cool old things.
Long story short. I collect because it makes me happy. Saving a bit of history even if it is an old razor. Also it keeps me in contact with nut bags like myself.

Tom, that's a great reason to collect. I collect because I'm a major history buff. I love the old stuff. I love that it was built to last, bit to be replaced. For me nothing is cooler than using something that was made well before I was born. The fact that I can get a great shave with it just is icing on the cake.
I also collect because it's cheaper than other hobbies to an extent. I love old guns, walnut and blued steel loon great to me, but I can purchase quite a few razors for the price of even a reproduction coach gun.

I don't collect razors. My wife would not agree with this statement. I used to scan eBay for all sorts of shaving implements, but no longer. There are several razors I would love to acquire at a bargain price (less than $25), but I'm no longer hunting them. I have two Hussies already, but the next time I see one for $25 delivered to my door in the UK - I'll get the third one. I feel slightly devastated that I just missed a sunray 1912 in very nice condition for $65 (not on eBay - I was an hour too late on a forum's BST) But the number of times I've seen a nice vintage razor at an amazing price and answered the question 'do I REALLY need this?' with 'NO!' is quite amazing. And that's it - I see a bargain and let it go without regrets. I can't be a collector. I've gone from buying a razor every week or two (or even more often) to acquiring two razors a year. I no longer collect - I just enjoy. Pass arounds have helped to scratch the occasional itch to try something new.

I suppose swmbo thinks that I collect, i call it acquire, I do suppose though, it is just a different verb for the same thing.
I do like the pass arounds, and as riverrun stated it does help scratch the itch that comes up from time to time. Truth be told, if I didnt have an active youtube channel, I probably would sell off my unmentionables and buy more SE razors. Unfortanutely most folks seem to view the unmentionables more than the SE, but thats ok, that just means for great razors, and great shaves for me!

There is another aspect to my razor collecting. I love the hunt. Fortunately my wife enjoys going to swap meets and estate sales. I hunt for razors and the occasional vise. My wife is an art supply hunter. We may go months without a nice score.
Getting to spend time together doing a shared interest is great.

I have the unfortunate problem of razor acquisition disorder. I'm up to about 80 now, haven't counted in awhile. I like to look at them, play with them and tell myself I'm preserving history. Hope it stops soon..

If this question was asked of me years ago I would have said, "No, I'm just trying out various razors.". Today my hand just naturally gravitates to 2 razors, so the I suppose the rest are part of a collection.

I guess I am a collector. I have over a hundred last time I counted. I am trying to give away some now with the adoption of Jayaruh brushes. I do enjoy using the older razors. I'd like to thank twhite for introducing me to wedge razors and wchnu for introducing me to lather catchers.

Eehh, I wouldn't call myself an advent collector but the most type of razors I have are SE. Only have...6 Gem, 2 Schick. Guess that would make me a Jr collector.
