I cannot fathom what a modern version of the Junior Bar would cost! You just can't duplicated something that beautiful, let alone make it shave the same. Limited blade selection is one of the reasons for my daily use. I have tried all available and am very comfortable with my selection. Wedge blades are too much bother for me as I am in my 70's and do not desire to acquire equipment and skill to keep them sharp. Every time I shave I wonder how many others have enjoyed my razor I am using today! I have collected many SE"s, but my rotation is about 8 assorted favorites.

I'm going to be different here. I enjoy SE razors as another part of my rotation of SE and unmentionable razors. I don't particularly favor one over another, although I think I get better shaves from...dare I say it here?...those other razors. Please don't ban me! 😟🙄😛 No one gets banned here for that. I use all kinds of different razors. Your among friends. Keep working on the SE you will come around. 😁

Bonus points for the Star Trek reference!!!
I wish I had started out with the SE. To me (YMMV) the angel is much easier to find. It is almost automatic when you are ready. Im not a big fan of "blade chatter" and the SE seems to have none of that with the thicker blade. Had I known about the advantages of the SE before I started off with the unmentionables, I probably, never would invested so much time or money into the others.
I do think that once one has mastered the angel, and the pressure, you can get much better shaves than with the unmentionables. I wont toss mine, but they dont get the use that they once did.

Over the years I have indulged in unmentionables(Fuzzy was here) over weekends and what made all the efforts of stropping, honing, maintaining an edge, was the skin feel after the shave. The skin felt alive, soft and smooth with no irritation. When I used the single edge injector and then the Gem razors - I got that same skin feel post shave without the need to maintain the edge. A unmentionable on a stick - works for me for me for daily shaves !

OS, I did start with SE, but used as much other gear as I could in my search for shave nirvana, but no combo ever was as good as a SE shave for me. Now I can't remember the last time I picked up an unmentionable, yet they are right there in the cabinet. With other gear it always seemed as though the shave was tettering on the brink of ruin (I like aggressive razors). I think the difference is in the blade thickness.

I have to agree with you on the blade thickness. It makes a difference, at least to me. I can not only hear the difference, but I can also feel it. On the Unmentionables I get "blade chatter" and I can feel the blade skipping across my face as it vibrates. I do not get that with the thicker SE blades. I think, for me at least, that is the biggest difference.

I've read several references here to "blade chatter". My unmentionable blades don't say anything 😁. Seriously though, what is it?

It's microflexing of the thin blade that the unmentionables use. It's at it's worst, and most easily noticed, when the blade gets dull. At that time it grabs the skin while the razor itself keeps moving and a cut results. That never happens with a SE blade. What does happen with SE is that as the blade gets dull it just stops cutting efficiently and it never bites the user.
