Ok guys, Someone here please enlighten me as to what the draw is to the Yaqi brush craze that is going on right now Am I missing something here? Why suddenly did everyone start buying and using these brushes? Are they just the latest craze that the shave community is going through right now, or is there merit to them? I don't understand the draw. I have not been involved in the shave community for very long, but it seems like not to long ago the craze was Omega brushes...... I just don't get it. Perhaps the head marketing guy at Yaqi is really good at his job? Perhaps they sent them out for free to the "big guys" of the YouTube videos? I am at a complete loss as to the sudden craze of these brushes.

well, the Yaqis are very good brushes, with a good price point, solid resin handles and a wide variety of models to choose from. I guess the craze was fueled by the extremely low prices they were offering when they were trying to gain popularity in the mainstream wetshaving world. Once becoming an established name in the industry, the prices went up to more normal levels, but they're still a good value for money.

I didn't know if it was simply a fad or a phase that would pass. I will have to get one of them and see what the fuss is all about. Maybe my next non custom brush will be from them.

I am at a complete loss as to the sudden craze of these brushes. Yaqi came around at the right time. Word got around the forums very quickly and the enabling began. They produce some excellent, low cost brushes coupled with inexpensive shipping. I have 3 now with synthetic tuxedo knots which I use regularly. I'm expecting a new Yaqi for Christmas, which I'm sure you'll see on Boxing Day.

What they said, they are inexpensive well made brushes. The badger knots even hold their own against brushes costing 5x as much

Ok, this makes sense now. I get why there is the draw that exists. For the price they are good brushes, got it. It's hard to know sometimes if something is good, or just hyped. Andrew linuxguile I am good on a badger brush! But you already knew that, didn't you!

I think I'm too late to the party on this thread, those articulating the benefits and draw of the Yaqi brushes have done a great job! So I guess I'll say "ditto" and just move along.

Since I know your love of Synthetic brushes, do you notice any difference from other synthetic brushses in that same price range vs the Yaqi? Dollar for Dollar are they on par, worse, or better than the others in that price range? Also, along those lines, do you notice a law of diminishing returns on the synthetic brushes that you have and /or have used?

I'll clue you in on a little secret. At the very least most synthetic knots are made of the same type of fiber. And I believe most synthetic knots are made by the same manufacturer. Can you guess which one? I've had a RazoRock plissoft that felt exactly like a Stirling synthetic that felt exactly like a Maggard Sunrise knot. There are subtle differences between the different styles of synthetic knots (cashmere, tuxedo, synbad, sunrise [Plisson style], Timberwolf, etc) but for the most part they feel very similar and produce lather similarly also. The only brush that I will say feels unique amongst all of the synthetics is the Simpson's Synthetic. The fibers are packed so densely and the knot is set with such a short loft that the bush had tons of backbone.

I had read that most synthetics were coming from a single manufacturer; and I can't tell a difference between my RazoRock plissoft, Maggard synthetic or the Yaqi's in terms of quality or knot difference. I can tell a slight difference between the synthetic knots (Timberwolf vs Mew Brown) -- but I have a Maggard Timberwolf and a Yaqi Timberwolf, and if you blindfolded me (and made the knot sizes the same), I'm sure I couldn't tell them apart. Synthetics tend to be on the cheaper side of shaving brushes (at least that's been my experience), but I'm always looking to save pennies on the dollar, so I gravitated towards the Yaqi's when they were much cheaper than other offerings. These days, I feel like their pricing has come up to about where the others are (i.e., Maggards, RazoRock); so I usually look at Yaqi's now because they have a large selection of handle types. All that said, I've never used a "high end" synthetic, so they may be well above the Yaqi's in terms of quality/performance.

Best party of Yaqi revolution is the 14 kind of synth loft. Everyone can find his best. They're good, easy, cheap. ordinaryshaverIf you like synth, you'll like Yaqi. In ilRasoio there're all the info you need. (see here) But without trying, you'll miss the point.

IschiaPP I figure that until I get one, I won't really understand it. I will get one, but there are other things that I want ahead of it on the list.

Seems like this thread kind of died, but I'll revive it with my two cents. I bought 7 Yaqi brushes during their 11.11 sale and wow...I was very impressed with their quality. I got a mix of synthetic and two banded badger and all of them are excellent! In particular the 26mm two band badger is fantastic. I highly recommend them, even at their regular price. I was lucky enough to get them at about $12 each shipped, but they are worth the normal price tag easily.
