I haven't fished for decades. But from my very early years up to my mid 20s the summers or weekend would mostly find me with a rod in my hand. I'd fish for anything fresh water or salt, but as I got older I drifted toward fly fishing for trout mostly. Most weekends would find my wife (now) and I heading out to the Beaverkill or Willowemoc rivers in NY state to indulge my pastime. Now I live in Gadabout Gaddis land (he lived in Bingham, Maine) and haven't touched a rod in decades. Yes, I remember him well and his show The Flying Fisherman.
What changed for me? Why do I no longer fish? My first love is shooting and I indulge that fully today.
Hey guys, yellow perch are delicious too! One just needs to know how to clean them and that can be done in about 10 seconds with practice.

Also Pickerel, Hornpout, and a trillion sunfish. I didn't know Gadabout lived in Maine, I sure liked his show, I think my brother still has a couple of the lures I ordered from him. I think they were spoons.

I don't fish, but my son likes to fish and takes his boys. This is a peacock bass he hooked on the Amazon River. It was catch and release. Wow. Nice fish.

..and the river is on the rise again. We had two more inches on NOT needed rain. If it doesn't dry out and soon, I see large parts of the state being declared disaster areas as far as agriculture is concerned. Very little corn in the ground and it should be almost all in the ground and it's been too cool and wet, so what is in the ground is not coming up quickly enough and may start to rot. As far as the river goes anything after 17 feet on the stage is too high for fishing unless you are on in a boat and get back into backwaters. Anything below about 12 feet is wonderful.

I've heard that about worms, but where are the worms? If in the skin, that's handled in cleaning the fish. I have never seen worms in the flesh but I haven't seen it all.

Who likes to fish and what do you fish for? I live in Minnesota, land of 10k lakes, officially we have 12 or 14 thousand of them. So there is a lot of fishing to be had here. My favorite fishing though is not on a lake. I like river fishing a lot more. I particularly like catfishing. Not necessarily going for the monsters, but a few good eating size are a lot of fun. I fish the Minnesota River mostly, but it's way too high at the moment. It's been flood stage or above since mid March and I don't think it will be at a level I like to fish for at least another month and that's with no additional rain, which isn't likely. My uncle lives in Minong. He likes to ice fish and hunt up there.

I fished mostly for trout when I lived in the Rockies, but also chased pike, perch, bass, walleye (on a co-worker's boat), sunfish, and catfish.
Summertime in Alaska means salmon, and I typically target sockeye (red) and coho (silver). The chinook (king) numbers have been alarmingly low the past few years, so Fish and Game has closed or restricted fishing for most chinook runs. I also fish for rainbow trout and Dolly Varden. Last summer I caught a 40-inch pike, too.
I use a variety of tackle, but fly fishing is my preferred method. Catching a trout or salmon with a fly rod—especially with a fly I tied myself—is most rewarding. Here is a short film which includes some of my salmon and steelhead flies:
Two weeks ago I tried surf-casting for halibut using my salmon gear (similar to catfishing with bait). No fish on that trip, but I enjoyed fishing the salt water and trying to use the tide to my advantage.
When the lakes are covered with sufficient ice in winter, I will drill holes looking for pike, dollys, and burbot.
Tight lines, fellas!

As much as I love to get into a school of 2-3 lb bass, I'd trade it all for slab crappie and bream on a fly rod. Those joker's turn sideways and swim! Noting more fun than catching pan fish on a fly rod!

Noting more fun than catching pan fish on a fly rod! I do some bass fishing here as well. We have a lake about 1/4 mile from my house so some nights after work, I'll head down and do a little casting from shore. Nothing giant, but I've latched into a 4 and 5 lb'er before which is a nice fish. Mostly 2-3 lb'ers though. MN state record largemouth is only 8lbs 6ounces. We don't grow them giant like you Southerners.

I have fished a few bass tournaments, and done ok. It's not my favorite way to do it. I had much rather get into a school of smaller fish, and catch a bunch, instead of only catching one big fish all day.
Honestly, if I never caught another one, I'd be okay, as I've moved from catching to teaching. Been taking the 7 year old nephew when I can, and letting him catch them.
I have learned this lesson: you can go fishing, or you can take a kid fishing, but you cannot go fishing, with a kid.

Addicted to catfishing all my life and still fish about 3 days a week---one lake 1 mile away and second 6 miles away. Fish mostly for large Channels and flatheads, I do fish for blues in Ohio River system. I have even named my boat Catillac
