Hey folks. Just wanted to start a thread about alcohol and tobacco. Tonight I plan to smoke some MacBaren 7 Seas Royal in my churchwarden from Mr. Brog.

Looks nice. Always wanted one of those. So a question.. Is it possible to clean up a vintage pipe so that it is ok to use or would I have to change the stem or something???

Estate pipes? They are breeze to clean, reem and smoke. The first two pipes I bought were estate pipes. The best smoker I owned was an old, old Medico I picked up on eBay for under $10, smoked only once! This is just how I do it....I soaked the stems in alcohol for a few hours using a pipe cleaner to get inside. Then I rinse them well with clean water and soak in a shot of whiskey. After cleaning the bowls I set them in a tray, using uncooked rice to hold them in place, and pour a shot of whiskey in each bowl and let them sit over night. If the bowls are really dirty you can add a certain kind of salt to it, you might have to google that one. I think I used brandy one time and red wine another without any problems. If you want another pipe check out the Mr Brog pipes on eBay. They are made of pear, smoke great and cost less then $30 bucks. My warden was something like $28 delivered to my door. They get consistently good reviews. stores.ebay.com/mrbrog

Thanks for the info. I saw a humidor with 6 old pipes for $10 today at the local junk store. I think I might go get them. No churchwarden's though/

Even if you get only one good pipe...that's a good deal.

My comments on the tobacco . . . I am a reformed smoker. After 45 yrs of smoking cigarettes, cigars and even a pipe I have managed to screw up my lungs worse than a GEM Micro"junk"omatic screw up my face!
I recommend that you all give up the stuff while you are young enough to avoid the consequences.
As for the booze, well, be careful guys not too much. I am not a reformed drinker. Never did much of it but do like the taste of a beer now and then. Like every couple days! Not more than one though.

Thanks Possum for the warning. I don't smoke often, weekly if that, while sitting with the fellas.

wchnu, how often do you enjoy tobacco and do you inhale? I indulge once in a while but never inhale.

No inhale. I smoke at least once cigar a day usually. Some days two. Rarely more. I have not smoked a pipe in awhile. Need to pick up some middletons.

Don't sleep on it. Even if you don't smoke you could resale them on eBay.
