I would of thought that a 1900 lather catcher would of used wedge blades? I see that the Superior that I bought on eBay has a couple of Superior spine backed blades..but I dont know if they are original to the razor or not. Any idea how long Superior was around for? There seems to be quite a few spine back blade stroppers so it must of been popular I don't remember Waits saying. It just says 1900-1901. If that was the life of the company there can't be many of them out there. Could it be the patent date with 2 years? RM, it's a great shaving razor. It felt mild to me, but the resulting shave was one from an aggressive razor. I really liked it. Tomorrow will be #2 razors turn. #1 razor is to the left in the picture. Definitely a keeper. IMO gents, if you can find them, buy them. If you like LCs that is. I also think because of it being a 1900, most folks think they require a wedge blade. So the prices are kept low 'cause folks don't bid; until folks catch on. FWIW, I didn't get them on fleabay, but from another forum. Sleddog, I'm interested in reading of your experience with it. FWIW, the hold downs on the side are "tight" to the head on both of mine. One has to coax and guide the blade under them so as not to damage the razor. IMO, it's definitely a case of install a blade and leave it there for the duration.

I found this tidbit posted by D.Irving on the old forum.
superior began in 1900 and was around 15 years or so. a lot of their razors were patent by august scheuber, whos name appears on dozens of gem patents.
a funny tidbit: the 1908 superior head: the back of the head has all the superior "scrollwork", but guess what the top of the razor looks like? a 1910 gem, complete with the G in the center. it even has the bar.
If you do a Google search for 1908 Superior Razor, you will find this thread and a couple of others

I should probably post a picture, but everyone knows what it is...
I bought 400 TP 121-3 blades from a gent for a really great price and after the deal was struck he went through his razors to send me some for any use I wanted to put them to. I never expected that. Who would? What a gentleman!
He sent 2 OCMMs, one of which has been spoken for, but one was a GEM Jr Bar LC. I've seen pictures, but never in my hand. Nice shaver, a bit mild, but no challenge to get a great shave from it. It's in my user collection and when I get to it I'll get it replated.

Greetings This razor turned up in today's post it is a Schick J3 Golden 500, an e-bay purchase from the weekend. I payed £4.99 for the razor and £3.00 postage (total 12.49 US dollars) which has to be a bargain in any currency. It needed no more than a light scrub with a toothbrush and some fairy liquid. There are 18 blades in the dispenser and there was one in the razor and one in the used blade compartment of the dispenser. The dummy blade was still in the case. It looks like the razor was possibly only used for the life of the one blade plus whatever use the one in the razor had. There is no instruction pamphlet which I believe they all had but I am not complaning!! ;D I am looking forward to trying it in the morning, I would like to try one of the blades that came with it but my experiences with NOS blades is not all that good. I suppose a more scientific approach would be to use the blade I like and whose performance I am familiar with namely the Personna Stainless PTFE Coated. Regards Dick. P.S. Did the rounds of my local charity shops today, again a big fat zero shaving related items, total consistency

Great pictures. I also use photobucket but I've found recently that their links are too long and this forum doesn't like them. I've since been using Imgur with much better results.

Greetings
Thanks Tom; when you find something on e-bay that you like and you think is a bargain and there are no other bids you can't help but think.........what have I missed that all those other buggers have spotted?
In this case it was nothing; nothing at all, I suppose that it is just e-bay paranoia!
Regards Dick.

Pretty sure that's the one(or it's double) that was in my sights.Very nice and real tempting to have around but I'm trying to go minimalist with few exceptions and those "exceptions keep popping up ;D Happy to see you scored it my friend...
