12 March 2013Prep: Proraso Pre Razor: EverReady Streamline Brush: Elite7 Scarlett + WSP HMW 23/50 Soap: Martin de Candre - Savon À Raser (45)AS: Krampert's Finest Acadian Spice Bay Rum -- Hip Flask
This was my first use of the Proraso Preshave (thanks Dave). It's a bit different than I was expecting but it did lead to another fine shave. I eliminated my usual preshave soap and I didn't notice my shave suffering. So the Proraso works at least as good as my preshave soap. I'll keep using it for awhile to see how it works.

Tuesday 3/12 Razor: Wilkinson Sword Empire Blade: GEM Stainless coated SE Brush: Semogue 1305 Boar Lather: Godrej Menthol Mist cream Post: Alum, Lucido, Clarins Soother Results: Great shave with my latest toy. The Wilkinson Sword Empire uses special wedge blades, but with a very modest bit of modification to a regular SE blade I was able to use it instead of the wedge. The shave felt very different with the ADJUSTABLE rolling guard. A Mostly BBS, irritation free shave. Very Cool! It's not a Streamline, but it's another great British razor from the same era.

Greetings, That's a really good example of an Empire model, you've cleaned it up great. I'm glad you got a good shave out of it. I have a Wilkinson Sword Razor on the way an unboxed 'cheapie' from e-bay; I am hoping that it is an empire model but it was hard to tell from the picture which as usual was a back view. I have a very strong feeling that it is only the Empire model that will accept a modified SE blade, a similar situation to the different models of VAS razors. If it is not an Empire model then probably it will become just an ornament/paperweight! Regards Dick.

Dick, Thanks for the compliment on my Empire razor. I hope yours is usable with new blades too. At least 2 variations of razor seem to work, mine (with the screws on the sides) and Sled Dog's (with the rivets at the pivot points). One link that really helped me was: www.theshavingroom.co.uk/forum/thread-10963.htmlThe mod was identical to the mod for a VAS. The missing magic step was to push in on the screw that controls the guard roller. That moved the blade stops forward enough to allow the blade to tuck in behind them. Good Luck!

Wednesday 3/13
Razor: Wilkinson Sword Empire Blade: GEM Stainless coated SE Brush: Semogue 1305 Boar Lather: Godrej Menthol Mist cream Post: Alum, Lucido, Unrefined Shea Butter
Results: Another Great shave with my new toy. The "rolling-screw" adjustable guard is really cool! I'm almost at the highest aggression setting and the shave is still smooth. No nicks or weepers. A Mostly BBS, irritation free shave.
