Well here I am pondering my next move. I got a hold of some Treet blades (from Walgreen's) and put them into my 1912 Ever Ready since that was what wchnu recommended. I did indeed get a very easy BBS that was very comfortable, but i'm not sure I'm into shaving with these BA SE jobs. I think it's the size and sorta chunkiness that just don't seem to mesh with me I also thought the loud crunchy sound of my whiskers being cut was a little off putting. Nothing wrong with the shave, even ATG was quite smooth.
I dunno I'm just not knocked-out over these.

I was in the same boat at first. Then I tried an injector, and a gem jr. That was when I realized that the shaves were better. The shaves are better, and a better experience once I figured out the angles of attack it was better than any other unmentionable that I had ever used. Keep with it, the shaves will get better, as you re learn how to use the razor.

When I first tried my 1914, it was so loud, it SCARED me!!! LOL!!
Now I'm in the LOUDER the BETTER Camp! And I like FEELING the whiskers getting cut through the handle....These SEs are the Bomb for that! My ER Lather Catcher is the Loudest and most responsive razor I have....I'm in LOVE!!! Scared to shave too late though....., for fear of the SOUND waking the neighbors in the condo next door!! LMAO!!!

Stick with the SEs for a while. You'll be rewarded with some GREAT shaves and an enjoyable process. Get to know the razors and their intricacies. Figure out the east-west pattern under your nose. Dabble a bit with blade angle, but always remember to keep it tight to your face. Learn to love the solid feel of the blade cutting your whiskers. Revel in the variation of audible feedback with different razors. And once you're comfortable with all this, GET A LATHER CATCHER and see what all the fuss is about. I've got a 1914 T'd up for tomorrow AM and am already looking forward to it!

If you cannot handle the big head, you may find Schicks to be the thing for you. Schicks are great shavers. Also, the Pal Injecto-Matic is an awesome razor.

I secone the lather catcher! I'll do another shave with it on Sunday for a video, and show some patterns of how to use it. Or at least what I do.

If you don't like the sound get an injector. That's precisely why I don't like injectors. Like Bird' I live for the sound that tells me my angle is correct.

I second the "Try an Injector" comments. If you like I have one you try out.

I too used to find the sound a bit off-putting. It sounded too harsh and raspy, compared to the vast array of unmentionables I had used. Now I look forward to the sound and feel. Favorite pass is ATG, especially under the chin. Sounds like scraping burned toast or slowly tearing paper. LOVE IT!!

Schick injectors are much more intuitive. Easy to find the right angle.
Just remember, use very little pressure on the skin. The Schick injectors shave so smoothly, it makes you think it isn't cutting any hairs, so there is a tendency to press the razor on the skin a little more. Don't do that. The razor really is cutting the hairs.
The injectors are, in my opinion, easier to learn than the Single edged Gem razors.

PIF sneak preview. Andrew, linuxguile , is sending me two Schick E3s with bum handles. I am going to make wood handles for them, and I will be putting them up for a pif. I will do one here and one across the street. They entered the mail system today, so as soon as they get here, I will let you all know. I will start on the handles tomorrow.

I have been the very fortunate recipient of one of jayaruh's E3 pifs with the wood handle and I love it...will be a welcome addition to any shave den.
