wchnu please post this where you see fit as it has elements of multiple threads. 30 July 2017 Evening Shave Razor: GEM MicroMatic Clog Pruf Blade: PAL Soap: Colgate Cup Soap Brush: AOS Fine Badger Saturday the Wife and myself went grocery shopping. Before the grocery store we went razor hunting for razors that I could use as PIF's to new wet shavers. I found two things that I would like to tell you about here. The first was the Colgate soup that I have already posted about. The other was my first GEM MMCP. This is how it looked when I got it. When I got it home my son spotted it and told me he would like to give it a try. Translation "I like the looks of that razor. Can I have it Dad?". I told him he could try it after I tried it out first. After some scrubbing bubbles and a bath in the ultrasonic with Dawn soap, this is what it looks like now. Yesterday I had chores around the house that I had to do, so I forwent my morning shower until after the chores. After the evening shower I decided to try out the Colgate Soap and MMCP razor. With all the love for Colgate here I was expecting great thing from the soap. The results were not what I was hoping for. It lathered quite easily but the lather was thin and did not have that slick feeling I get from my other soaps. After reading the the thread on Colgate over in the Soap Forum there is a general view that there is a difference between Colgate Cup Soap (which is what I have) and the Colgate Mug Soap. Now I am not about to give up on this soap after just this one use. Heck it could have been and probably was me that hosed it all up. I added a lot of water to the soup from the start. Probably to much water as I dumped some water off the soap mid load. This is my first MMCP razor. It's a heavy razor that I found myself pushing down on during the shave verses letting the weight of the razor doing the work for me. It is VERY mild, I don't think I could nick myself with this razor even if I wanted to and tried to do it. The shave after to passes was okay not quite DFS but acceptable. There was to many variables in the shave to say it was one thing or another that caused the shave to be less than stellar. The bladed I used has had 6-12 shaves on it, the new soap, the new razor and the biggest factor me myself. Conclusion: I will have to try the razor again with some Arko Soap. Then a second time with a fresh blade. After that I may pass it on to my son as I have a MMOC headed my way I won on the Bay last night. The Colgate soap I will use again tomorrow morning with my normal amount of water in the brush and a Schick Injector from my rotation. As I recall there wasn't any kind of sent to the soap. If I used AS this would be a good one to add my favorite scent to. No animals were harmed in the making of this review Edit: Brush was AOS Fine Badger not Best Bager as was stated in original post.

This past weekend I got my first MMCP. The first shave with the razor Sunday evening was less than stellar results. This morning I tried the razor again with an all new setup. Here is the morning shave: Tuesday Pre-Shave: Hot Shower Razor: GEM MMCP Blade: Treet Soap: Dirty Deeds Soap, Tobacco scent Brush: AOS Fine Badger Post Shave: Thayers After Shave Witch Hazel This mornings shave was at the other end of the shaving spectrum. I started off by using a known soap and what it takes to get a good lather from the soap. I got the Dirty Deeds this past June from a gentleman across the street. The only thing negative I have to say about the soap is that it doesn't smell like tobacco at all. I can't describe the scent other then it smell like soap. SWMBO says it smells like fresh or sporty. What ever that smells like. Though I do like the smell. I will have to look in to getting some more once this one is gone. Hell, I will have to get it again for the fact that the last listed ingredient is BEER. One of the potential culprits of the disappointing shave Sunday was the used PAL blade that I had in the razor. I had used that blade about a dozen time up to that point in my Damaskeene. To correct for that I got out a new Treet blade. Paying more attention to the act of shaving this morning I found the razor to be more aggressive then it was before. I got a much closer shave from the first pass than I did the prior two pass shave. It was cleaner and removed the hairs effortlessly with surgical precision. On the second pass I did notice some irritation on my neck. The shave was going sooo well and I still had plenty of soap in the brush for a third pass that I threw caution to the wind and went in for a third pass. Caution came back and slapped me in the face or should I say neck. Now I typically do a two pass shave. Shaving on a vertical axis. First pass going down (WTG). Second pass going up (ATG). A couple of weeks ago when I had not shaved for a couple of days; (it was a Sunday, and I had not shaved since Thursday morning) I tried mapping my beard growth with a cotton ball. I had seen/read this on some forum somewhere that you can take a cotton ball and rub it on your face to see which way your hair grows. When you rub WTG the cotton stays together. When you rub ATG it looks like Halloween threw up on your face and it shreds the cotton. I found that down around my adams apple the hair grows from my throat to my ears. Now this morning feeling over confident I tried the elusive XTG/Adams Apple ATG pass. I have tried this once before, I looked like I had a fight with a feral cat. Apparently I forgot about that shave though this mornings was better than the last time. This time the cat did not get its claws dug into me. I did how ever have more irritation and a couple of small weeper around my.... You guessed it, Adams Apple. To try to curb some of the stinging and irritation I used some Thayers After Shave Witch Hazel. All in all it was a good shave. I look forward to using the MMCP again before the OCMM I got off the Bay gets here. As before no animals where harmed in the making of this review. Including that damn feral cat.

I merged your original post here and cleaned things up!! Glad to see it went better. If your having problems in a certain area you might try some light buffing instead of a full pass. The clog pruf is a great razor. Once to get use to it I am sure you two will be buddies. I am looking forward to seeing how you get on with the OCMM. Also known as Rippy.

OCMM is Rippy indeed! The CP can be a pretty close comparison though.
You can certainly get a close shave with both of these razors. I agree with Fuzzy on the buffing - with short light strokes. Works a charm. Just keep it light or you find out the secret charms of these earlier reapers.

Lately I've been noticing some of my razors getting despondent by all the use that my ER '24 gets. So to combat that I've instituted a policy where after break in, the fresh blade goes into a less used razor for it's life. You convinced me to put the current blade into the OCMM. It's a razor that I like but just don't use enough. I think it will enjoy being used.

Has the son tried it yet?? No he has not. He hasn't shaved in two weeks and it's driving me up a wall. But then again he is only 18 and just out of high school so he knows everything. Do you want a teenager? I'll give him to you.

I live close to LSU and see tons of nasty scraggly facial hair types. I always want to offer then the use of a kit.lol

I see that on our TV, particularly with the weathermen. Really? They can't be presentable to come into my living room? So far the lady weather forecasters don't sport facial hair.

Our local news people look pretty clean cut actually. Of course most are closer to my age. I grew my beard out when younger....but I could actually grow one.

It's mostly the guys with weather nerd looks. Maybe they've been taking flak about not looking mature or even possessing spheroids, and it's being done in reaction. I don't know, that's just a guess. One now looks like a Bowery bum with a suit jacket he got out of the dumpster, the other looks like a weather nerd w/o spheroids but with a beard.

Ha,ha,ha you cats are killin me ovah hee yah!! I know in alot of Europe and Turkey, most of the men shave once a week...In Turkey they go to the barber once a week for their shave....Looks like a throw-back to the Miami Vice look....Remember the "Miami Device ? THE MIAMI DEVICE Back in 1986, if you were male and suffered from stubble envy -- a disturbance characterized by a desire to have an always budding beard like TV star Don Johnson -- you may have wanted to pick up an electric razor that went on the market that spring, costing only $29.95 and leaving you with a 5 o'clock shadow 24 hours a day. It was called the Stubble Device. The Wahl Clipper Corp. of Sterling, Ill. made it expressly to capitalize on the sandpaper-chin look popularized by the Miami Vice sleuth. Rather than suffer the embarrassment of a clean shave, you could keep your beard fashionably semi-trimmed with the machine's handy one-to-five-day growth settings. The razor was originally called The Miami Device. But the company feared a trademark infringement lawsuit by the show's producers To think the genius inspired Micro-matic from the OP had to share America's faces with the Miami Device.....just unbelievable.... I have a Wahl that I use for my buzz cuts.
Before I discovered blade shaving I seriously considered using it once a week just so as not to have a beard. Maybe one of these guys is under the same shaving "strike" that I almost had . Could be but he still needs to reevaluate his appearance. He really looks like a bum, except I've seen bums that looked better. (sorry bums, I didn't mean to drag you down!) :-)
