Seeing a lot of love for the AutoStop razors recently and wonder if I should invest or just move along.
Thoughts/recommendations/etc on these would be appreciated.
Thanks

I am very much a newbie to the AutoStrops (just 1 shave under my belt), but it was truly an awesome shave! For me, the early AutoStrops (A1, A2, B1, B2, VB1 and VC1), the ones that can take a de-spined GEM blade, are the ones that interest me the most.
I know there are many folks around here that have, use and really enjoy the AutoStrops -- I'm looking forward to hearing their thoughts.

You know you want one. You know if you don't get one you'll never know what you were missing and then you'll HATE YOURSELF! Buy an older model with the slide in blade carrier so you can use your GEM SE's Watch out for broken blade stop hooks especially if your buying off the Bay. Don't pay too much.

I probably do want one but have no clue on which model is which. They are not expensive on the big online site but, again, don't know what I'm looking at. Just have to learn some more I reckon.

I want to echo the helpfulness of these two links -- both were invaluable to my education!!!

I just finished five days with my A1 with a Valet AutoStrop blade that I stropped before and after each shave. I have moved that blade over to my B1, and tomorrow, I will continue the AutoStrop quest. I am enjoying the ride.

Ive found the adjustable VC1 with original solid blade, before they started cutting out the "valet" in the blade is a nice shave. My VC4 with stamped out blade is not a good shave for me. I also recommend getting a second strop and green chrome-ox it. Youll get way more shaves from a vintage razor that way.

Here's a potentially stupid question -- pretty much the only ones I know to ask -- but will a regular strop (assuming it's the right dimensions) work with these??? I'm assuming everybody who is stropping blades on an AutoStrop is actually using a restored vintage AutoStrop strop -- but maybe folks are using a thin one like a 'modern' 2" x 26" strop?

The Autostrop strops are 1 9/16" wide and 13" long overall and .05" thick Since my only strop is NOS that came in my VB1 set and I only used it twice so far, I will take Dan's suggestion to find a second strop to use with green chromium oxide.

The AS strops are very thin. I did my 7th shave with this blade. I stropped it before and after the shave. It is getting better. This was my best shave yet.

Thanks -- I think the thinness is definitely the challenge. I REALLY like the shaves I get from my B2 -- haven't tried my B1 or VC1, and I'm very anxious to try the A1 that's on it's way. I've been enjoying seeing everyone's AutoStrops!!! I'll keep an eye open for a usable/restoreable strop and some NOS blades. Probably be awhile, but I'll be back
